Virginia became a state on June 25, 1788 , and was the 10th state of the Union.  It's capital is Richmond.  Virginia is located in the south-central United States.  It is bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, on the south by North Carolina and Tennessee, on the west by Kentucky and West Virginia, and on the north and northeast by Maryland and the District of Columbia.
