I will offer facts that the family supplied to me. No proof documents have been supplied so consider this as unproven and undocumented.
Married before 1797, son William was born 1797.
Rachel his wife was born a few miles from Mt. Zion, Georgia,
A record of their marriage has not been located.
Recorded that he had twelve children, but only been able to identify seven.
Glydie claims positive proof of 11 with the 12th identified.Dr. Marcus O. Shivers did not show James Monroe Shivers as a son of Barnaby and Rachel.
Glydie claims proof, positive, Barnaby had a son by that name but no documents have been produced to clear this up.Dr. Marcus O. Shivers - Barnaby's daughter was named Lilly Ann based on the will of Jonas Shivers Jr.
Warren County Probate records -
Lilly Ann mentioned in Jonas Shivers' as daughter of Thomas Shivers.
Glydie shows Lilly Ann as the daughter of Thomas and not of Willis or Barnaby.
Glydie believes Barnaby had a son named Emanuel and a son named John Milner Shivers

The Ballad of Rock Mill Plantation
In 1820, or thereabouts, William Shivers, with heart so stout,
Surveyed the land far as eye could see
And picked a spot on the Ogeechee
For to build his house in a fashion grand
By the rock-walled mill would his manor stand.
Granite and brick and good heart-pine
Combined to make a house so fine -`Twas here his family would abide
Serenely by the river-side.
The years were good, but with passing time
The old Mill wheels would cease to grind-
The house would stand in sad array
Forgotten, the glories of yesterday.
Until one day like Lochinvar
Appeared a nifty foreign car -
Another Shivers, stout of heart
Took one look and did depart. But the thought of Rock Mill haunted him
And deep within he had a whim
To restore the house to former glory,
And therefore follows quite a story -
Of toil and tears and dreams fulfilled
Life was returned to these Hancock hills.
But soon again the silence fell
Until a family felt the spell
Of charm and beauty rarely found,
And so they purchased house and ground.The foreign car appears no more;
A horseman gallops to the door -
Reins tossed aside he leaps each step
This hunter who is known as Epp -
Once more he's brought this house to life
Since he took Sharon for his wife.
Rock Mill rings again with sounds of long ago,
With echoes of joy and laughter - and shouts of 'Tally Ho.'
12 July 1980 'Pinkie' Knox
The 3 marriages by william Shivers are recorded in Hancock and Warren Counties.Rock Mill Plantation present owners, Allan Shiprio and his wife Judy.

Jonas Shivers diedWill, on file in the Warren County Courthouse,
to his son James---`the mill, forty slaves, 900 acres in Hancock County, household and kitchen furniture, stock plantation tools, moneybook accounts, and all residue whatsoever'. The other sons, Barnaby, Willis, William and Thomas were left small cash legacies.1831
James mort-gaged his share in all to Joel Crawford, Robert Sayre, William Hill, and Thomas Latimer. (Note: This is about the same time as Barnaby's financial troubles and the same Robert Sayre came into possession of Barnaby's home on Shoulderbone Creek. gan)
Four years later they sold it to James Thomas.Latimer donated some land to the Trustees of Mayfield Academy.
The land came back into the Shivers family possession again.
The deeds in Warren are missing for these years.1840 *** CENSUS IMAGE ON FILE ***

"William Shivers of Isle of Wight County, Virginia, lived
near Smithfield, Virginia. There are many business
transactions recorded at the Isle of Wight Court House.
He was a large land owner. He married Sarah Godwin,
daughter of William Godwin and Margaret Godwin.
William Godwin in his Will, date 1777, did not call
his daughter Sarah, Sarah Shivers. Sarah Godwin could
have been William Shivers' Sr., second wife--no proof.
William Shivers, in his will 1796 mentions nine of
his youngest children as a group which suggests two sets
of heirs. His son Tom went to Tennessee, purchased land,
and was buried at old family cemetery at Goodletsville,
Davidson County, Tennessee.
"The ancestors of William Shivers are not known, however,
in his will he states that "I give to my son Jonas Shivers
all the land and plantation that I purchased of my brother
Jonas Shivers." Jonas Shivers, and Lilory Godwin Shivers,
(son of Jonas Shivers, Sr., and Patience Dixon Shivers),
sold 100 acres to William Shivers. Jonas Shivers, son of
William Shivers, Sr., gave his brother Tom 100 acres in
Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Sarah Shivers, wife of
William Shivers, Sr., bequeaths to her daughter Hannah
Godwin the tract of land purchased from her son Tom
Shivers. These transactions seem to prove that William
Shivers Sr., is a brother of Jonas Shivers, Sr., and
wife Patience Dixon Shivers. No other descendants of
Jonas Shivers, Sr. and Patience Dixon Shivers are found.
(See records of Jonas Shivers, Sr., and Jonas Shivers,
Jr.)"
"Proof that William Shivers, Sr., married Sarah Godwin
is found in the will of William Shivers, Jr., son of
William Shivers, Sr., which states "I appoint my loving
mother and uncle Joseph Godwin executors." Will was
presented by Sally (Sarah) Shivers for probate June
3rd, 1805. Witness Joseph Godwin. Sarah Godwin was
the daughter of William Godwin and wife Margaret Godwin,
as proved by will of William Godwin, date January 13,
1777, and probated January 3, 1778."

I am looking for information concerning the marriage of William Shivers and Nancy Perry. Believed to have married in Gasconde Co. Missourri on January 10, 1830. Children believed to be Issac William Shivers, and perhaps a Nancy J. Shivers who we have as a younger half sister of Issac William. We have a William Shivers(sr) of Georgia and a FFancis Pitt as the possible parents of the above mentioned Shivers but I have been unable make the link. Can anyone help? I would appreciate it much.Sherry (Shivers) Bradley
