John Vance

(abt 1756 Ė 1814)

 

John VANCE was the son of David VANCE (1721-1768) and Janet ___ (Colville?)

 

John and his first wife, name unknown, had threechildren, according to probate documents filed in
1814 in Clark County, Ohio.†† At that time he was married to his 2nd wife, Mary Wallingford,
and had a son by her.Mary Wallingford Vanceís father, Benjamin Wallingford, was
appointed guardian of the three children by Johnís first wife:George, Anna and
Phebe. (See Family Group Record below -after Probate Documents)

Mary W. Vance married again after Johnís death, to Uriah Humble, Jr., on September 3, 1818,
in Clark County, Ohio.††† Uriah was the brother of Cornelius Humble who married
Anna Vance, Maryís step-daughter, on February 19, 1819, in Clark County.

The State of Ohio, Clark County Viz

††††††††††† To all whom their presents shall come know ye That by the Honorable the Judge of the court of common pleas of said County at the September term of said court in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighteen, Benjamin Wallingford was appointed Guardian of the person and Estate of George B. Vance an orphan and minor aged fifteen years the 19th day of November 1817, one of the heirs and legal representatives of John Vance, decíd.†† Agreeably to the statute of this state in such case enacted.††

In testimony whereofI, Saul Henkle, Clerk of the Court of common pleas of said county have hereunto set my hand affixed my seal of office at Springfield, this 26th day of October A.D. 1818.
