Text Box: GOTHIC, FROM LONDON. At 1 pm yesterday the White Star liner Gothic brought her ninth trip to New Zealand to a conclusion by dropping anchor in the stream after a splendid run of 3 days 15 hours from Hobart. To Mr W. S. Inman, purser, we are indebted for report and files. The Gothic left Plymouth at 7.50 am on 24th January for Teneriffe, and anchored off Santa Cruz at 5.6 pm on 28th January. Disembarked a few passengers, coaled ship, and left at 6.18 am next day for Capetown. Moderate NE trades were experienced until crossing the Equator, where light variable winds prevailed; thence moderate SE trades and fine weather until arrival in Table Bay at 10.8 am on 12th February. Landed 214 passengers and embarked 56, and resumed the voyage at 6.26 pm the same day. Moderate northerly and westerly winds and fair weather prevailed all the way to Hobart, which port was reached at 6.55 am on the 3rd inst. After discharging 440 tons cargo and landing 60 passengers left again for Wellington at 4.55 pm. Coming across, moderate to fresh northerly winds and fine weather with smooth sea were experienced, and the ship arrived in port as above. Much ice was seen between 43 E lat and 84 E long, some bergs being unusually large. The voyage was an exceptionally fine one, and enlivened with concerts, fancy balls, &c. The Health Officer's report proving satisfactory, the big steamer was brought alongside the, Queen's Wharf by Capt Johnson at 3 pm. Her cargo consists of 3600 tons for Wellington and 900 tons for Lyttelton, to which port she proceeds about the end of the week. Messrs W. and G. Turnbnll and Co are the local agents. Wellington is to be her final port of departure from the colony on 1st April.
