| The ENGLAND departed Gravesend on the 3rd December, 1870, and arrived in Wellington, | |||||||
| on the 19th March, 1871, under the command of Captain Harrington. | |||||||

| ARRIVAL OF THE ENGLAND | |||||||
| The ship England, from London, Harrington, master and owner, arrived in harbor yesterday afternoon, after a | |||||||
| passage of 104 days from port to port. Gravesend was left on the 3rd Dec, and thence to the equator variable | |||||||
| weather was experienced. Crossed the line on the 18th January, 38 days out. The longitude of the Cape of | |||||||
| Good Hope was passed on the 8th February, 67 days out. Easting was run down from 51° to 52° South, passing | |||||||
| to the eouthward of Kerguelan's Land, where she experienced heavy gales and high seas. Passed the | |||||||
| longitude of Cape Llewin on the 23rd February, 12 days out. The west coast of the Middle Island was made on | |||||||
| the 7th March. From that time a succession of baffling gales from the N.E. and S.E. delayed the vessel until | |||||||
| three days ago, when Cook Strait was entered. Since then experienced a succession of light airs and calms. | |||||||
| The general health of everybody was excellent throughout the passage, and no death occurred. The England | |||||||
| brings about 110 passengers altogether, and composed of various nationalities. The following are the names | |||||||
| of the saloon passengers : — His Lordship Bishop Viard, the Rev. Father O'Reilly, the Rev. Mr Cummins, the | |||||||
| Rev. M. Tresallet, and Brother Cyprien, Messrs Robinson, Hyland, Walker, Miss Willis. Captain Harrington is | |||||||
| accompanied by his wife and niece. | |||||||
