This is the same John Williams who was living with Elizabeth Livingston in the 1850 census. It is possible the he was Elizabeth's younger brother which would give us her maiden name.

In 1860 Andrew was living with the Cargile family in Union Township, Springfield PO, Conway county, Arkansas. His brother, Alexander, later married Mary Cargile.

Census records all say that Alexander K. Livingston was born in Alabama @ 1835. One of R. M. Livingston's daughters, Joyce Livingston Bowles of Manassas, Virginia, had some of Ruben Andrew's papers, among which was a pocket ledger with birth dates. Thus, I was able to determine that Alexander was born in Nov. 1833 (I have the day somewhere in my notes).

Alexander married Lucinda Lewis in Conway Co. in 1855. They had several children. The War Bet. the States came. He became a 1st Lt. in Co. E, 10th Ark. Infantry and was taken prisoner during the Seige of Port Hudson, La. After the war he married Mary (Cargile) Elliott. They had several children; she had had a daughter---Ara, I believe was the name--- by William Elliott, her first husband who was killed in the war.

In the early 1870's they moved to Stephens County, Texas. Alexander was the son of Elizabeth Livingston, born in Tennessee. Besides the three sons listed on the 1850 Marion Co., Arkansas, census, there was a daughter who married a Smith. There may have been two other sons (James and David, both born in the 1820's in Tennessee). They were the only other Livingstons in Conway Co., Ark., on the 1850 and 1860 censuses. Also, a sister may have been Hannah Cargile, who was the wife of one of the justices of the peace who officiated at one of Allec's marriages.

Allec's brother Andrew was a deputy sheriff living in the household of that Cargile (who was also the county sheriff). Allec's younger brother Reuben Levingston did not get along with Lucinda, so came on to Texas with the sister. (Reuben's descendant---says he walked to Texas.) Anyhow, I am in touch with a descendant of the older sister, and she says it was the sister and her husband who brought Reuben to Texas with them.

Reuben Estes ended up in Llano County. His nephew, Allec's oldest, Ruben Andrew was in McLennan Co in 1880 with his wife, their son Frank, the wife's parents and two of her nephews named Hunt. Eventually, Ruben Andrew moved to Erath Co. (Exray community).

On July 15 1861 Alex was 27 years old married to Lucinda with at least 4 children. He was five feet nine inches tall with a fair complection, dark hair and blue eyes. On that date he enlisted in the Confederate Army at Springfield, Conway County, Arkansas. He served in Lt. Vaughn's Company (E) 10th Regiment Arkansas Infantry. Records show that he was promoted from 3rd to 1st Lt. on Feb 24 1862. He was wounded and was on 20 days furlough from April 10-30 1862.

He was captured at Port Hudson, Louisiana on 9 July 1863 and sent from Port Hudson to New Orleans on the steamer "General Banks" on 16 July 1863. He was arrested on that day and held as a prisoner of war at New Orleans. He was transferred from there to New York by order of General Banks on 3 Oct 1863. He was held as a prisoner of war at Fort Columbus, New York Harbor until 13 October 1863 when he was forwarded to Johnsons Island, Ohio. He was held as a prisoner of war at Johnsons Island until he was sent to Point Lookout, Maryland almost two years later on March 21 1865. He is shown on a roll of prisoners of war at Ft. Delaware, Delaware where he was transferred on 28 April 1865.

He took the oath of allegiance to the United States at Fort Delaware and was released on 12 June 1865.

Records show that his officer's pay was $80.00 per month! But it was only shown that he was paid twice. For the period 27 July - 16 Sept 1861 he received $133.33 and for the period 1 Dec 1862 - 1 Jan 1863 he received $80.00.

I suppose that he must have made it home a few times between the time he enlisted and his capture in 1863 because Lucinda had three more children between 1861 and 1864.

Louizor had broken her hip when she and Ruben lived in Erath County. So they went to live in Idalou. There Louizor died and Ruben stayed part of the time with family out there and part of the time with

James Franklin in Rogers. Ruben died there, in Rogers, 4 June 1943. The death cert. and the headstone dates conflict.

Subject: Ruben and Louizor

I was told by one of Ruben's granddaughters, Veda Barton (now deceased, daughter of Ruben Marks Livingston, the youngest child), that Ruben and Louizor moved out to the Idalou area to live with the daughter (Cora) who had married Owen McInroe. I also received a letter stating such from Owen's son, Forbes McInroe who lived in Lubbock when I heard from him. Ruben also had two half-sisters who had both married Huckabays, and they lived in the Lorenzo area. After Lou died Ruben would often go back and forth and live with his son in Bell County, James Franklin "Frank" Livingston. He would return from time to time to Forbes McInroe's home (after Forbes's parents had both died). Ruben Andrew died in June 1943 in Bell County (near Rogers) and was buried in Idalou Cemetery by Louizor, who had died 25 September 1932.

The death certificate of Cora Ann McInroe says she was born Jan. 17, 1886 in Arkansas and died in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas on October 9, 1934. Her parents were R.A. Livingston and Louisa McNutt. The informant was O.D. McInroe, her husband.
