Sarah Ann Dryman, the daugher of John Henry Dryman, was born 19 June 1785 most probably in Chester County, Pennsylvania, although her descendants gave Tennessee as her birthplace on census records and died 30 November 1856 in Skyland, Buncombe County, North Carolina. She married John Lance , Jr. Abt. 1806 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, son of John Lance and Mary. The children of Sarah Dryman and John Lance are:

John Henry Lance, the son of Sarah Ann Dryman and John Lance, Jr., was born 24 July 1807 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, and died 07 February 1851 in Georgia. He married (1) Jane Jones Abt. 1829 in Buncombe County, North Carolina. He married (2) Delila Mashburn 02 April 1846 in Union County, Georgia.

Joseph Lance, son of Sarah Ann Dryman and John Lance, Jr., was born 20 November 1809 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, and died 07 January 1879 in Buncombe County, North Carolina. He married Elizabeth Hunter Abt. 1836 in North Carolina, daughter of John Hunter. The children of Joseph Lance and Elizabeth Hunter are:


Mary Polly Lance, daughter of Sarah Ann Dryman and John Lance, Jr., was born 19 April 1811 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, and died 02 December 1893 in North Carolina. She married (1) James E. Cogburn. She married (2) John Frady Abt. 1839. James and Polly lived in Haywood County, NC, they were divorced about 1838 and he moved to Arkansas and remarried. Eliza Lance, the daughter of Sarah Ann Dryman and John Lance, Jr., was born 18 July 1812 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, and died 25 November 1892 in Buncombe County, North Carolina. She married William R. Murray. The children of Eliza Lance and William Murray are:


Samuel Riley Lance, the son of Sarah Ann Dryman and John Lance, Jr., was born Abt. 1814 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, and died Abt. 1880 in Hayesville, North Carolina. He married Rebecca Hunter Abt. 1832 in North Carolina. The children of Samuel Lance and Rebecca Hunter are:


Nancy Ann Lance, the daughter of Sarah Ann Dryman and John Lance, Jr., was born 08 April 1816 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, and died 17 January 1887 in Union County, Georgia. She married Joseph Caswell Neece 1834-1835 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, son of John Neece and Mary Cook. The children of Nancy Lance and Joseph Neece are:

Jackson Van Buren Lance, son of John Henry Lance and Jane Jones, was born 01 November 1836 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, and died 05 September 1905. He married Julia McBee, daughter of Henry McBee. The child of Jackson Lance and Julia McBee is:


John Henry Lance, the son of Samuel Riley Lance and Rebecca Hunter, was born 04 July 1833 in North Carolina, and died 16 February 1890 in Hayesville, Georgia. He married Sarah Caroline Turner 02 August 1857 in Georgia.
From the book, Lentz Heritage:
"John Henry Lance was a Methodist preacher (MECS), in the North Georgia Conference starting about 1878, and probably sponsored Temperance Societies near Wolf Creek in North Georgia. He was against alcohol and was murdered by two "moonshiners" when he stopped at Wolf Creek for his saddle horse to drink on his way hom from Sunday Church. He was found by his wife in the creek where he had been left by Frank Swaim and Fred Canup. His hands were so badly cut up trying to defend himself that he was buried with white gloves on. Swaim was sentenced to life on 21 May 1890, but Canup signed a death bed confession which freed him after 19 years at hard labor in the coal mines of Dade County. Some still believe today that Swaim should not have been freed."

DEEDS AND WILLS FOR SARAH DRYMAN

This Indenture made this twenty-third day of May One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seven between Henry Dryman of the County of Buncombe and the State of North Carolina of the one part and Sarah Dryman of the County & State aforesaid of the other, witnesseth that the said Henry Dryman as well for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which he hath and bearth unto the said Sarah Dryman, his only daughter as for the sum of one dollar to me in hand paid by the said Sarah Dryman before the sealing and delivering of these presents do give and grant unto the said Sarah Dryman her heirs and assigns forever one sorrel horse with a blaze face, three head of cattle, one feather bed and furniture, two sheep, one four gallon pot and other furniture on the shelf and I the said Henry Dryman all and singular the aforesaid goods and chattles to the said Sarah Dryman, her heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns do warrant and forever defend from me, my heirs, executors and administrators and from all manner of person or persons laying any lawful claim by promise under me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and date above written. Signed, sealed and delivered in presence of

Sarah Ann Lance relinguishes her right to administer on the Estate of her dec'd husband John Lance, which is received and filed.
Russell Lance is appointed guardian for the heirs of Henry Lance dec'd who gives bond in the sum of two thousand dollars with Joseph Lance security, which is accepted and filed.

The Last Will and Testament of Sarah Ann Lance

The last will and testament of Sarah Ann Lance of the county of Buncombe and State of North Carolina. I Sarah Ann Lance, considering the uncertainty of this world life and being of sound mind and memory blessed be almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say, first I give and bequest unto my beloved granddaughter, Mary Ann Murray of the county of Buncombe one feather, my best, bed and a full equipment of the necessary bed clothes, one cupboard and all the furnishings such as delph and chefs ware belonging to it, also one folding table and one chest and I further give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Eliza Murray of the aforesaid county all and ever my personal and real estate such as I am now seizes and possessed of or may become mine previous to my death. I further give and desire to my said daughter Eliza Murray my two negroes Bill and Ann which I allow to be delivered and direct that the said negroes at my decease be given in charge to W. R. Murray the husband of my said daughter Eliza Murray for her and her bodies heirs (at law) special and full use and benefit and my will and meaning is that in case my daughter shall depart this life before such time as my death, I then said in that case will give and bequeath the foregoing named negroes Bill and Ann together with the aforesaid bed and bedding, cupboard, delph and ware and furniture to go to and to be equally divided as near as may be between my dear daughter Eliza Murrays body heirs. The said Bill and Ann are not to be sold but to help and kept in the care of W. R. Murray for the special use or benefit and behoof of the aforesaid Eliza Murray, her body heirs after her death. I do further give and bequeath to my several children, Samuel R. Lance, Joseph Lance, Polly Frady, Nancy Neece, one dollar each and also one dollars to the children of Henry Lance (deceased) to be paid to each of the aforesaid last named of my children on my decease. I do further hereby appoint the aforesaid W. R. Murray my sole Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me.
Made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 11th day of May 1853.

Sarah Ann Lance died on Nov. 30 1856, 71 years old

Know all men by these presents that I Sarah Lance of the County of Buncombe and State of North Carolina have this day bargained & sold and delivered to Adolphus Lance and Mary Ann Lance his wife for their own special use and behoof and to their heirs and assigns for the consideration herein after mentioned the following personal property to have and to hold the same, to wit, one sorrel horse three years old, one waggon and all the gearing. One cow & calf, six head of sheep. One corner cupboard, all the bed and bedding as also all and singular the household and kitchen furniture together with all the farming utensils such as plows, plow gears, hoes and all other implements of husbandry that are on the farm when I now reside with all the feathered fowl chicken & that I am possessed of at this time. All of which said property I hereby give to the aforesaid Adolphus & Mary Ann Lance to have and to hold from this date and further I give to and direct the same to be delivered up to Wm. R. Murray all the other personal property that I may be possess of. Of whatever kind other _____ and except the above described personal property and to his heirs and assigns for thierespecial benefit and behoof with this proviso: that it is the distinct understanding and agreement that I the said Sarah Lance am to have the free use of the above named property at any and all times as also to have the free use and full access to all the house, room and the premises where I now live and reside so long as I live and at my death I wish the aforesaid described property to be and remain to the aforesaid Adolphus & Mary Ann Lance & Wm. R. Murray. They the aforesaid Adolphus Lance and Wm. R. Murray leaving this day obligated themselves their heirs and assigns to take good care of me the said Sarah Lance and maintain me comfortably during my life free of charge and expense (see bond to that effect, whether sick or well for the aforesaid consideration. I hereby assign and give my right title and claim as above to said personal property to the said Adolphus & Mary Ann Lance and Wm. R. Murray, this witness my hand and seal this the 29th day of May 1855.
