Rachel Dryman, daughter of James and Diademia Dryman, was born Abt. 1815 in Buncombe, North Carolina. She married Peter Lance Bef. 1842 Her last name is often found spelled Driman. Peter was the son of Valentine Lance, who was the son of Peter Lentz and his wife Chloe. It is believed that Peter and his brother John left Germany and arrived in Charleston about 1750.
The children of Rachel Dryman and Peter Lance are:

• Ellen Lance, born Abt. 1842.
  
• James Lance, born Abt. 1847.
  
• Nancy Lance, born Abt. 1850.
  
• William Lance, born Abt. 1851.
  
• Leonard Lance, born Abt. 1854.

William Lance, the son of Peter and Rachel Dryman Lance, was born about 1851 in North Carolina and married 19 May 1872 in Transylvania County, North Carolina, Josephine Dryman, the daughter of Leonard and Nancy Alexander Dryman. Josephine was born about 1856, both parents were dead by 1868 and it is believed that she went to live with her Aunt Rachel's family. I have no definite proof that Rachel was Leonard's sister but if she was not his sister then she was a cousin. William and Josephine had these children:

• John B., born about 1874 in South Carolina
  
• Eddie W., born about1877 in South Carolina
  
• Thomas, born in January of 1880 in South Carolina.

The 1880 census finds this family living in Pickens County, South Carolina, Hurricane Township, dwelling No. 49, family no. 50, page 5 of Series T9, Roll 1238

Leonard Lance, the son of Peter and Rachel Dryman Lance, was born about 1854 in North Carolina and married 20 April 1873 in Transylvania County, North Carolina, Mary Adaline Dryman, the daughter of Leonard and Nancy Alexander Dryman. Mary Adaline was born between 1848 and 1854, depending on which census record you look at.Leonard and Mary Adaline's children are:

• Charles E., born abt 1875 in North Carolina
  
• Crayton E. A., born abt 1879 in North Carolina

The 1880 census finds this family living in Transylvania County, North Carolina, Eastatoe Township.
