"William A. Cabe reared his family on Middle Creek, near Otto, NC. He farmed and carried the mail, sometimes by horseback, sometimes by foot across the Mountain Gap to Scaly. After "Bill" suffered frostbite to his feet, his son Stephen
would substitute for him on the mail route.
A Confederate Military marker was secured by his gg granddaughter, Karen Ann
Thompson Ledford in the summer of 1991. His grave had no marker at all. This
marker bears his name and company which he joined at the beginning of the War
