James Clayton Crabtree, the son of John and Margaret Fuller Crabtree, was born 09 October 1878 in Tennessee, and died 10 December 1922 in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri. He married Harriet Mae Richardson on 25 December 1901 in Lebannon, Laclede County, Missouri, the daughter of Robert Richardson and Martha Shumate. She was born 21 January 1885 in Lebannon, Leclede County, Missouri, and died 20 September 1973 in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri. When Clayton decided that Hattie was the one he wanted to spend his life with, he simply went to the Richardson household and stated "I've come for Hattie". During their lifetime together Clayton worked as a carpenter, a boilermaker and a miner, the latter of which contributed greatly to his death from silicosis of the lungs. Clayton is buried in the Forest Park Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri. After his death in 1922, Hattie went to work in the shirt factory as a shirtmaker, after her death in 1973 Hattie was buried in the Ozark Memorial Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri.
