| Siloam Springs, Ark August 19, 1889 Dear Brot & Sister I set myself to drop you a few lines. Alls ___ but not very well. Hope this will find you all well. I would have wrote to you before now but I wanted to see how I would like this country. I will just say to you that I am well satisfied. A man can take a little money, get a good start. Everything is cheap. Crops look mighty well. My cotton is good enough if no storm nor thing else hurts it. I am good for one bale to the acre. The people here one third the work that they do there an live better & it is healthy as it is there, all to the chills but they are not hard to stop. I had druther live here & chill every day than to live in there godamed country. A man can live by a neighbor here & there he can live by a goddamed raskel. There is mighty good clever people here. So I will close for this time by saying write soon. G. W. Cook to James J. Cook |
