| "Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Cecil King at Warfel Chapel Monday at 10:30 am for Walter Edward Sheppard of Salem, Mo. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery near Birch Tree, Mo. Mr. Sheppard, son of the late William L. and Lizzie Friend Sheppard, was born near Vandalia, IL June 28 1887. He died suddenly at Phelps County Hospital in Rolla following a heart attack Dec 4, at the age of 72 years, 5 mo and 6 days. He married Rachel Snyder September 23 1919 and to this union four sons were born, Cyril died in infancy. Mrs. Sheppard died Sept 13 1938. On Dec 18, 1939 he married Bertha Barnett, who survives. He is also survived by three sons, Carl Sheppard of Rolla, Mo and Charles and Clarence Sheppard of St. Louis, Mo; two step-daughters, Thelma Wright of Mt. Zion, IL and Kathereine Sturling of St. Louis, Mo; two step-sons, Michael S. Barnett of E. St. Louis, IL and Thomas J. Barnette of Washington, DC; two brothers, Elmer and Bertie Sheppard, both of Peoria, IL; two sisters, Hazel White of Forest, IL and Grace Rehn of Lisbon, N.D; 13 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; one half-brother, Major Wesley Sheppard of Dallas Texas; two half-sisters, Lillie Davis of Douglas, Ga, and Fay Cooley of Salem, Mo; and a number of neices and nephews, and other relatives and friends. Mr. Sheppard was a member of the First Baptist Church of Salem and a former pastor of the Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church near Mountain View, Mo., where he was ordained, and former pastor of the Lenox and Anutt Baptist churches. He was a veteran of World War I; a member and past commander, chaplain and chairman of the publicity committee of Dent County, Barracks No 1059, Veterans of World War I, Salem; a member of Dent County Memorial Post No 6280, Veterans of Foreign Wars and at the time of his death he was in charge of the Veterans Salvage Store operated by Dent County Barracks No 1059.
