| Obituary | 24 Dec 1928 | Chatham, Kent co., Ontario, Canada |
| "Tilbury Loses Respected Man Samuel Warnock Passes Away Following Long Illness Tilbury, Dec 24 - Samuel Warnock, a highly respected citizen of this town, passed away at his home on Fort St. Friday evening following a decline of over two years duration which culminated in senile pneumonia. Deceased was born in Monoghan County, Ireland, eighty-two years ago. At the age of sixteen he came to Canada preceeding his parents and engaged in farming in Tilbury East township. In 1867 he married Miss Mary Ann Wilson of the same township. For thirty-three years they lived in the same vicinity, honored citizens of the community. As reeve and councillor Mr. Warnock served his community for several terms and was a member of the school-board of S. S. No 10, Tilbury East, for years. In 1900 he and Mrs. Warnock retired from farm life and removed to Chatham where they resided for two years. Since that time their home has been in Tilbury town except for lengthy visits, as long as health permitted, to the Western provinces, where several sons are located. Mr. Warnock was a veteran of the Fenian raid, a member of the Orange and Masonic fraternities. He was a devotee of the target and for many years held a membership in the Tilbury East Rifle Club. While in his prime he and his wife made several trips to the scenes of his childhood in Ireland. The surviving members of his family are his wife, four sons, Samuel and Jas. of Coronation, Alta; Wesley, of Castor, Alta., and Wm. of Egerton, Alta., three daughters, Mrs. Wm. Walker, Tilbury East; Mrs. Walter Bell, Atwood; Mrs. David O'Flaherty of Iroquois, Ont. His only Sister, Mrs. Henry Magee of this town, passed away six hours later than her brother at her home on Ella St. The passing of these two members of the family means the passing of their generation. The funeral will be held on Monday afternoon, in the event of the arrival of two sons from the west. Interment will be made in McDowell cemetery, Tilbury West, where the parents of deceased are buried" | ||
