| ``Augusta Kautz Mrs. Augusta Brandenburg Kautz, eighty-nine, for many years a resident of the LaPlata community, died in her sleep early Thursday morning, October 3, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Beighle in Martelle, Iowa. The daughter of John and Mary Wilke Brandenburg, she was born March 16, 1868 in Chicago, Illinois. In September of 1883 she was married to Jacob Kautz and they moved to the farm near Kowley (sic), Iowa. In 1908 Mr. and Mrs. Kautz moved to a farm in the Sue City community near LaPlata where they lived until her husband's death in 1927. She then lived in LaPlata until her health failed. She is survived by two sons, Cleophus of near LaPlata and William of Atlanta; five daughters, Mrs. Orville Snow of LaPlata, Mrs. Evelyn Perry of San Diego, California, Mrs. Gilbert Cook of Omak, Washington, Mrs. Jim Bown of Keokuk, Iowa; twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Minnie McCracken of LaPlata. She was preceded in death by her husband and two daughters. Funeral services were in the Wilson Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 5, with Rev. Claude Thompson officiating. Burial was in the LaPlata Cemetery. LaPlata Home Press Octover 10, 1957'' | ||
