| ``Garrett Moncrief, eighty-five, died at his home Wednesday morning, December 12. He had not been well, but was able to be up and was waling into the house when he collapsed and died. A daughter, Beulah Jennings of St. Louis, was with her parents at the time. Funeral services will be Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at the Christian Church, conducted by Rev. H. P. Johnson. The body will be at Christie Funeral Home until Saturday when it will be removed to the home. Several members of the family are expected from California. The son of Robert Wilson and Matilda Moncrief, Garrett was born east of LaPlata in Macon County January 16, 1867 and spent his entire life in this community. On October 20, 1888 he was married to Mary Snow. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in 1948. They are parents of twelve children. Mary died in 1916 and Robert died in 1936. Surviving are Mrs. Moncrief and the following children: Anna DaVolt of Ft. Madison, Jessie McGlothlin of LaPlata, Pearl Thomas of Kahoka, Norine Jack of San Diego, California, Beulah Jennings of St. Louis, Eva Kenetzer of Los Angeles, Willie and Clarence of Santa Monica, Alice Williams of Brashear and Leona Hardwick of Knox, Indiana. Mr. Moncrief became a member of the Hazel Dell Christina Church at the age of twenty-five and for many years has expressed his readiness to meet his master.
