Barley, a parish in the hundred of EDWINSTREE, county of HERTFORD, 2 1/4 miles (N.E. by N.) from Barkway, containing 695 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Middlesex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £26. 13. 4., and in the patronage of the Bishop of Ely. The church is dedicated to St. Margaret. There is a school with a small endowment.
