Miss Rogene Gabrielse Is Wed To Calvin Gartman
Oostburg Christian Reformed Church was the setting for the 7 p.m. wedding
Friday, Oct. 18, of Miss Rogene Gabrielse to Calvin Gartman. The marriage
service was performed by the Rev. Bernard A. Van Someran, for the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. William Gabrielse, Route 1, Oostburg, and the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Wilbert Gartman, also of Route 1, Oostburg.
Two bouquets of white gladioli and pompons, ferns and candelabra decorated
the church for the wedding. Cousins of the bride furnished the music. Miss
Virginia Ver Velde was organist, and accompanied Richard Gabrielse, when he
sang "Because" and "The Lord's Prayer."
A sequined Sabrina neckline, Chantilly lace bodice, long fitted sleeves and a
bouffant tulle skirt, with four paneled lace inserts, fashioned the bridal
gown. The bride's headpiece was a half-crown, trimmed with pearls and
sequins. It held a silk illusion veil. The bride carried a cascade bouquet
of feathered, white carnations and red garnet roses, when she was escorted to
the altar by her father.
Miss Marianne Meerdink was maid of honor and appeared in a green gown, with a
strapless bodice, which had a folded stole, a pepium front and a back bow
over a full skirt. Her flowers were a cascade arrangement of white, yellow
and bronze pompons. She also carried the bridegroom's ring. Bridesmaids
were Miss Mary Lou Le Mahieu, Miss Jean Navis, a cousin of the bridegroom,
and junior bridesmaid, Sandra Kalk, the bride's cousin. Their dresses and
flowers duplicated those of the maid of honor. The miniature bride was a
cousin of the bride, Martha Kalk. She was attired in the same garb as the
bride and carried the same type of flowers. The role of the miniature
bridegroom was taken by another cousin of the bride, Jack Heinen.
Best man was a brother of the bridegroom, Robert Gartman, who also carried
the bride's ring. A brother of the bride, Donald Gabrielse, and the
bridegroom's brother, Glenn Gartman, were groomsmen. Junior groomsman was a
brother of the bride, Gerald Gabrielse. Those serving in the capacity of
ushers were Ronald Jensma and Wayne Sandee.
Three-hundred and thirty persons were present at the wedding reception, which
was held in the Oostburg High School gymnasium.
After a two-week honeymoon trip to Florida, the newly-married couple will
reside at the home of the bride's parents.
Both are graduates of Oostburg High School. The bride worked at Musebeck
