Joseph Herr, the senior member of the livery firm of Herr & Braun, of Sheboygan, was born in Meeme, Manitowoc
county, September 24, 1878, a son of Andrew and Mary (Deihn) Herr. The father gave his life's attention to
agricultural pursuits in which he was successful. Both parents are now deceased.
Joseph Herr received his education in the district school near his father's farm and in 1895 came to Sheboygan and
engaged in the livery business. This he conducted on his own account for three years, when he took into partnership
with him Albert Braun, who is still a member of the firm, which is known as Herr & Braun. The concern has a fine
livery barn situated at 912-914 South Fifteenth street, where they do a good business which has grown steadily from
In November, 1902, Mr. Herr was married to Miss Zimbal, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Zimbal, and to this union
three children have been born, all of whom are living at home and attending school, Cora, Elmer and Mabel. Mr. Herr
and his family are members of the Catholic church, in which they are prominent and take an active part. Having
given close attention to the livery business, in which Mr. Herr has all his life been engaged, he has become very
able in its management and conduct and is noted for his promptness in giving attention to orders placed with the
firm and in all of his dealings with his customers. Affable and accommodating, he has become popular among the
large number of patrons of the firm. As a citizen he is enterprising and public-spirited and has long since been
recognized as a valuable man in his home city.
