The beginnings of our known Simmons family are in Ohio where William Simmons and his wife Nancy Beaman raised his family of eleven children. William died in Richland County, Ohio 11 Mar 1852. Nancy Simmons died 9 Oct 1854 in Union County, Ohio.
We trace our Simmons through their youngest son Abijah B. Simmons who married Margaret Branyon in Richland County, Ohio in 1838. Their first two children, Maria and Allen were born in Ohio. The family then migrated to Noble County, Indiana about 1842. Abijah was listed as an elder in the church records of Rehobeth Lutheran Church. |

Many of the children of Abijah and Margaret were married in Indiana, as was our ancestor Maria Simmons. Maria married Commodore Perry True. After Abijah's wife died in 1877 many of the Simmons families and the True family moved to Kansas, settling in Rice County. The Rehobeth Church records state that by January 20, 1878 Abijah had moved to Kansas. He died there 26 Mar 1881.
