I have done very little research on our Port family. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. Our family begins with Thomas Port who was born about 1713. He married Frances Hinson about 1731. They had nine children probably born in South Carolina. Thomas was one of the early settlers of the Pee Dee where he was living in lower St. David's Parish by 1760. The Ports were supporters of the Church of England.

     Thomas Port operated ferry on Pee Dee above mouth of Lynches. Today there is a historical marker in Florence County, South Carolina at the site of the ferry.

     Their oldest child, Rachel married Benjamin Davis in Prince Frederick's Parish, Georgetown, South Carolina 21 Feb 1747/48.
