The origins of our Gilbert family are found in Yorkshire, England in the 1600's with Michael Gilbert. Two of his grandsons came to the New World and settled in Baltimore County, Maryland at the end of the 17th century. |

Later generations moved to South Carolina and then to North Carolina. William Isaiah Gilbert was born in Spartanburg County, South Carolina January 17, 1781. He married Cassandra (Cassa) Ann Woody and moved to Buncombe County, North Carolina. They had eight children.
One daughter was Julina Melissa Gilbert. She married Arnedus Loyd Moseley in Greene County, Tennessee.
