We find our Dunnam family in the early 1700's in South Carolina with John and Hannah Singletary Dunnam. John obtained a land grant for 500 acres of land in Berkley County in 1715.

Our line continues from his youngest son, Robert Dunnam who married Susan Burne in Dorchester, South Carolina. Robert Dunham had a plantation on the Great Pee Dee River near Snow Island in Marion District.

Robert's son was Robert Commander Dunnam. During the Revolutionary War Robert and other family members gathered supplies for General Francis Marion, who quartered his troops during the Winter, on Snow Island.

Robert Commander migrated through Georgia to settle in Bay Minette, Baldwin District, Mississippi Territory about 1810. This area later became Alabama.

Our Dunnam line continues through Andrew Johnson Dunnam, who was born in South Carolina, but moved to Alabama. He married Martha Watson and produced fifteen children. Andrew owned land in Monroe and Butler Counties.

Our next descendent was Theodore Woodberry Dunnam. At age 29 he enlisted as private in Company E, Second Alabama Cavalry Regiment.

About 1875 Theodore and his wife Nancy Anthony migrated to Houston County in east Texas where he settled on the waters of San Pedro Creek. This family had eight children. Theodore and his wife Nancy were charter members of Percilla Methodist Church. Many members of this Dunnam family can still be found in this area.

Our Dunnam family continues throught Theodore's son, Andrew Burnydot Dunnam who married Minnie Ann Brown in Grapeland, Houston County, Texas. "Dot" as he was called was restless and moved his family several times; Cleburne, back to Grapeland, Dallas and finally to Synder, Texas where several of his children settled. His sons owned the Dunnam Brothers Mattress Factory.
