The Davis family seems to be well documented, but I have not verified this information.

The earliest we find our Davis/David family is in the late 1500's in Lantwidvoyrde, Glamorgan, Wales. Glamorgan is the southern tip of Wales. Brothers Evan, Joseph, and Samuel came from Cardiff, Wales around the early 1700's. Joseph was lost at sea during the voyage. Samuel went to one of the middle states. Evan Davis settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania about 1760. Evan married Jane Rees, of Delaware, in Merion, Pennsylvania in 1711. They later moved to South Carolina.

Our line continues through Evan and Jane Davis' son Benjamin Davis who was born 17 Jul 1719 in Merion Township, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Benjamin married Rachel Port in Prince Frederick's Parish, Georgetown, South Carolina 21 Feb 1747/48. Benjamin and Rachel lived on the Pee Dee River. Benjamin served in the militia during the Revolutionary War.

The last Davis on our line is the daughter of Benjamin and Rachel, Mary Ann Davis. Mary Ann was born about 1761 in Marion District, South Carolina. She married Robert Commander Dunnam.
