Our Coker family is from Sumner County, Tennessee, where many still reside. Jesse Coker was born in North Carolina in 1784 and moved to Tennessee about 1800 where he married Polly Chance. Jesse served in the War of 1812 as private in Capt. George Sarver's Co. of Infantry, 2nd Regiment, Tennessee Militia from 20 Sep 1814 - 20 Apr 1815. His pay per month was $8.00. After Polly's death Jesse married Nancy Woods. They had no children. After Nancy's death he married Matilda Carr. In 1842 a new county was formed from Sumner County. This was Macon County. Jesse's land then lay in Macon County. |
