Our first Blakeys are found in Cumberland County, England. Thomas Blakey was born there about 1670. We know that Thomas immigrated to Middlesex County, Virginia where he married Catherine Susannah Churchill in 1686. He was a lieutenant in Her majesty's Colony and Dominion of Virginia Order of Council, Middlesex County.

Their son Churchill Blakey was born 30 Mar 1691 in Middlesex County, VA and married Sarah George. They had eleven children. Churchill and Sarah's oldest son was Thomas Blakey born about 1712 at Christ Church Parish, Middlesex County, Virginia. Thomas married Ann Haden. He had a large plantation on Arthur Creek of Slate River, in Albemarle (later Buckingham) County, Virginia called "Fountain Ridge". Thomas and Ann had ten children.

According to The Virginia Gazette of 28 Nov 1777 we fine "To Be Sold" on Thursday the 28th day of December, at the late dwelling house of Thomas Blakey, deceased: His personal estate, consisting of a large stock of horses, amongst which are several likely breeding mares, a good stock of cattle, two yoke of oxen, a large stock of sheep, geese, a large quantity of pork, corn. Also a great quantity of planters tools, kitchen furniture, pewter, tubs, pots, some crockery ware, a large copper kettle, a quantity of leather and many other things too tedious to mention. Six months credit will be allowed on all sums above 5 lbs on giving bond and good security. The bonds to carry interest from date, if not punctually. All land and plantation is to be rented. It is now in good repair and work 6 hands to advantage. It is a well furnished situation, with large orchards and a very large Timothy Meadow. Thomas Blakey and David Patterson, Executors.

Our line continues through Thomas and Ann's son Joseph Blakey who was born 28 Aug 1762 in Buckingham County, Virginia. Joseph marrried Winnifred Anthony and moved to Wilkes County, Georgia on Harden's Fork of Fishing Creek. His daughter Elizabeth C. Blakey is our ancestor. Elizabeth was born 3 Jan 1789 in Wilkes County Georgia. She married James Monroe Anthony.
