The origins of our Ball family are in Barkham, Berkshire County, England where William Ball lived in the 1400's. Six generations were born in Berkshire, England before the first emmigrated to the New World. William Ball settled in New Haven, Connecticut in the 1640's. By 1670 the Ball family had moved to Virginia. |

There is some descrepancy of which line my family descended from. At this time I have no clear proof of this line. We do know that the family are the ancestors of the Father of Our Country, George Washington. Joseph Ball is the father of Mary Ball Washington, the mother of our First President. My family descends through Moses Ball of Hunting Creek, Halifax, Virginia and his wife Nancy Ann Brashear. It continues through their son Moses Ball who married Mary Ann "Molly" Harden and moved from Virginia to Beech Creek, Hawkins County, Tennessee about 18242.
I am then descended through Moses and Molly Ball's daughter, Sarah, who married John Long in Hawkins County. Many of the Ball family can still be found in eastern Tennessee. |
