Class Pre-emption Grant from the |
Survey
The State of Texas, Houston County, a Survey for Wm. H. Dickey under the provisions of the pre-emption laws passed by the Republic of Texas and the State of Texas whereas the aforesaid William H. Dickey filed his affidavit with the undersigned authority, which entitles him to a Survey of 320 acres of land in said state, by his paying the government dues thereon situated in Houston County on the waters of San Pedro Bayou about 11 miles northeast from Crockett. Beginnng on the Cs East corner of a headright in the name of J. Effington (?) for 640 acres on a Rock from which a hickory about 5 in diameter bs South 630 East 55 varas a sand jack MR TM 10 inches in diameter brs cs 3830 East 11 7/10 varas. Thence East 984 varas at stake the Southeast corner of Benjamin Davis headright for 320 acres in the West Boundary line of Stephen Rogers League from which a sandjack MR DS 12 inches diameter brs Cs 38 East (?) varas another 14 inch diameter Mr brs CS 33 North 7 varas. Thence South within Roger's line crossing a branch at 578 varas East, cs East at 1833 3/10 varas stake from which blackjack WR 76 in. brs cs 65 West 156 varas, another WR 470 In Di brs (?) varas (?) West 984 varas, to the East boundary of the aforesaid 320 acres, a stake from which a blackjack was (?) brs Cs (?) varas and the MR 32 Di brs CS 55 East B varas. Thence cs with said line 1835 9/10 varas to the place of beginning. This the 4th day of March AD 1853.

Before me John W. Bodenhamer, Deputy Surveyor for Houston District, personally appeared William H. Dickey with whom I am well acquainted who is respectable witness and made oath in due form of law that agreeable to the best information that he can get that he believes that the land that he resides on is variant and unpattented, and that said land lies in Houston County on the Waters of San Pedro Bayou and is bounded on the North by Benjamin Davis 320 acre headright and on the East by a League in the name of Stephen Rogers and on the South by Variant Land and on the West by a 640 acre survey in the name of (?) Meade and I moved on the place between the 1st and 15th of January AD 1852, and have continued to reside on the same up to the present dates, and I now propose to make a file under the provisions of the pre-emption laws of said State. Sworn to and subscribed to before me this 15th day of July AD 1852.
