The first Burris ancestor I have found is David Burris born about 1780 in South Carolina. He married Elenor Lackey in Madison County, Kentucky and had 8 children. The family moved to Missouri by the 1820's. David Burris died in Cass County, Missouri in 1849.
David's oldest daughter, Elizabeth Burris married James Gibson in 1825 in Cooper County, Missouri. In 1853 James and Elizabeth Gibson followed the Oregon Trail to Douglas County, Oregon.
A son, Masten Burris married Lydia, and died in Cass County in 1888.
