The origins of our Ball family are in Barkham, Berkshire County, England where William Ball lived in the 1400's. Six generations were born in Berkshire, England before the first emmigrated to the New World. William Ball settled in New Haven, Connecticut in the 1640's. By 1670 the Ball family had moved to Virginia. |

A direct descendent, Richard Ball, born about 1635 in England and died about 1677 in Richmond, Virginia, is the great-grandfather of the Father of Our Country, George Washington. One of Richard Ball's sons, Joseph, is the father of Mary Ball Washington, the mother of our First President. To find another site about the Ball-Washington connection, click here. |
My family descends through another of Richard's sons, John Ball. Two generations later John's grandson, Moses Ball moves to Beech Creek, Hawkins County, Tennessee.
I am then descended through Moses Ball's daughter, Sarah who married John Long. Many of the Ball family can still be found in eastern Tennessee.
