Our first Anthony born in the New World was Joseph Anthony, born 1713 in New Kent, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Clark in 1741 and had fifteen children. Joseph owned considerable land in Virginia and was a successful planter and merchant. Our line continues through his son James Anthony, who married Anna "Nancy" Tate.

Joseph Anthony served in Revolutionary War by giving supplies to the cause. James Anthony served in Captain Stubblefield's Company of the 5th Virginia Regiment of Foot.

In 1790 James Anthony donated land on which public buildings and the central part of Martinsville, Virginia now stands.

In 1793 James Anthony and many of the Anthony family moved to Georgia. In 1803 he obtained land through the Georgia land lottery.

The next in our line was his son, James Monroe Anthony, who married Elizabeth "Betsy" C. Blakey in 1789 in Wilkes County, Georgia. Their son Thomas B. W. Anthony, born in 1812, continues our line. In 1832 Thomas drew land in the Cherokee Land Lottery. He married Sarah King Wright in Talbot County, Georgia and was a physician. By 1850 Thomas Anthony and his family had moved to Butler County, Alabama.

His daughter, Nancy Tearl (Terrell) Anthony, born in 1837 completes our direct Anthony line. She and her husband, Theodore Woodberry Dunnam, moved to Houston County, Texas.
