On Saturday, October 1, 2005 the W.V.S. Allen Cemetery celebrated its 125th Anniversary with 60 people present. The first burial occurred on December 24, 1880. It was a 7 day old baby named Isaac Sumner, son of W.V.S. and Mollie Allen.

Our celebration began with Steve Pruitt, an Arlington Firefighter, playing the bagpipes. Steve played three songs for us throughout the event. They were "Amazing Grace", "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" and "Abide With Me".

Joy Allen Newcom officiated at our program. Sue Roland told the history of the cemetery. Kaleb Perez read a Scripture and Ann Allen led in two congregational hymns.

John H. Allen, the great-grandson of John Allen, our Confederate Soldier and patriarch of our Allen family in Texas, told about about his last days during the Civil War. He died in Cleveland, Tennessee in 1862.

Next James Allen read and unveiled the marker that was erected commerating John Allen, since we was buried in an unmarked grave.

Judy Allen Knight told the story of her great-great grandmother Martha Elizabeth Thomason Allen Carrier, the widow of John Allen. Eric Knight read her obituary.

After the program we had a catered barbecue meal.

Pictures of 24 of those buried in the Allen Cemetery were placed in the graves and a Descendency chart of John Allen and Martha Elizabeth Thomason Allen showed all of their descendants to the present.
