Internet notes:

David Poer Jr. was born about 1765 in Prob NC. He died before 1820 in
Prob Pickens Co., SC. The relationship of David Jr. being a son of
David Sr. is probable, although no definite proof is available.

David was enumerated in the 1810 census of Pendleton District, SC,
and was probably in Montgomery Co., NC in 1800.  Holden family tradition
has it that the Poers were of Dutch origin, however, others indicate that
David Poer Sr. came from Ireland.

David probably died prior to 1820 as Frances is listed as a head of
household in that year, although another source indicates that he
died in 1825 in Montgomery Co., NC.  David's estate was not settled until 1834.
It is recorded in "A Collection Of Upper South Carolina Genealogical and
Family Records", Volume I.  The names of some of the daughter's husbands were
obtained from the estate records. In one of the records, it was indicated that
David was a hatter and owned three slaves.
One of the estate citations was published at Holly Spring Meeting House.

David married Frances M. ? . Frances was born about 1775/1794.
She died after 1834 in Oconee Co., SC. Frances was last enumerated
in the 1830 Pickens District, SC census.  She still had six children at home.

David Poer Jr. (1765-1825) David was a hat maker by trade,
settling in Pickens District, SC, on the Tugalo River.

in Boston in 1716; John Poor settled in New England in 1630; Patrick and J and others.

Notes:
I am thinking that it is probably, Frances "Madison" Poer, hence james Madison poer.
An irish tradition to pass the maiden name forward... There is a Frances Madison
listed in sc as of 1820.
However, James Madison Poer could just be named for the president or for the
county in Alabama...  so this is just a guess

However, if this is she, then james m. would be only 14 at david's death
if she married latter part of 1820 after census.. will have to look into this...

Polly Ann Poer
b. on 8 Feb 1802 in SC. d. about 1850 in Lawrence Co. or, Jackson Co., AR.
m. Isaac Holden son of Richard Holden and Sarah A. Barnes on 22 Jul 1819 in Prob SC.
When Polly and Isaac married, her parents gave her a Negro slave woman as a wedding present.
The Holdens were not big on owning slaves. Quoting a descendant, "Polly was small in stature,
but Herculean in courage". Isaac was born on 15 Dec 1798 in Pendleton Dist., SC. He died in
Apr 1862 in Lawrence Co., AR. There is no documentation, but one relative says that Isaac's
middle name was Callaway.  By all accounts, Isaac was an adventurous man.  He was tall, about 6'4".
He was very active in the militia.  The records do not support it, but family tradition has
it that he fought in the War of 1812 against the Creek Indians at Horseshoe Bend in 1814
and against the British at New Orleans in 1815.  His 1836 service in the Georgia Mounted
Volunteers in the Seminole (Florida) War is documented.  For this service, he was given a
warrant for bounty land.  There is some evidence that Isaac went to Texas about 1836 to
aid the Texicans in their war for independence from Mexico.

Isaac and Polly's early-married life was spent in Georgia.  They lived in several
counties in the northern part of the state, taking part in some of the land lotteries.
Isaac was probably involved in the gold rush that took place in Lumpkin County.

In the early 1840's, Isaac was involved in an altercation with another man at a
militia drill, which drastically changed their lives.  The resulting feud caused him
and several of his brothers to leave Georgia and move to Arkansas. The trip was made
by flatboat via the Tennessee, Mississippi, and White Rivers to Jackson Co., AR.
Part of the family income there was derived from killing bears and rendering grease
for sale. The area where they lived was called "Bear Trough Hollow".

In 1851, Isaac was awarded his bounty land in neighboring Lawrence County.
In addition to his being a farmer, he was also a justice of the peace.
His first wife died about the same time they moved to Lawrence County.
Not long thereafter, Isaac married a cousin, Delilah Holden Robinson.
Isaac and Delilah remained on the Lawrence County farm until his death.
One source indicated that Isaac was buried at Cloverbend, AR.

Rebecca Poer
b. about 1809 in Prob SC.
She married Green Berry Gilaspie.
Green was named in David Poor's estate settlement.

James Madison Poer
b. about 1811 in SC. He died before 1880.   (My line)
James Madison Poer was the administrator of his father's estate in 1834-1835.
He and his family were living in Gilmer Co., GA in 1850 and Marshall Co., AL in 1860.
It is not absolutely certain that this was the same James, but the names of James'
children match some of those used by his father.

James married Verlina Dixon about 1832 in Prob SC.
Verlina was born about 1816 in SC.
In 1880, Verlina was living with her son John in Ellis Co., TX.

Elizabeth Poer
b. about 1813 in SC.
Elizabeth married Martin Dickson son of William Dickson and Cathern Boone.
Martin was born on 1 Jan 1810 in GA. Martin was named in David Poor's estate settlement.
He was a miner and farmer. In 1860 and 1870, the family was living in Dawson Co., GA.

Nancy Poer
b. 4 Sep 1814 in Pickens Co., SC.
She died on 26 Nov 1885 in Pickens Co., SC.
Nancy married William Rothell, son of Claiborn Rothell and Delilah,
about 1832 in Pickens Co., SC.  William was born on 22 Feb 1807
in Pickens Co., SC. He died on 29 Aug 1884 in Pickens Co., SC.
They are buried in Damascus Baptist Church, Oconee Co., SC.
William was named in David Poer's estate settlement.
William and his family were enumerated in the 1860 Pickens Co., SC
census and the 1880 Oconee Co., SC census.

There may have been an earlier son, M.J.P. Rothell.  This could have
been James Rothell, born 17 Apr 1838, died 28 Mar 1909, buried
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Oconee Co., SC.

Emily Poer
b. about 1819 in SC.
Emily was a minor child in 1834.  In 1880, she was a head of household in Lee Co., MS.
Emily married Reuben M. Clayton on 8 Oct 1837 in Forsyth Co., GA. Reuben was born
in AL. He died before 1880. According to a World Family Tree genealogy, there were
two additional children in this family:  Samuel S. Clayton, born May 1854 in MS and
Mary Ann Clayton, born about 1847 in AL.

Frances Poer
b.about 1820 in SC.
Frances was a minor child in 1834.
Frances married William B. Davis on 30 Mar 1838 in Forsyth Co., GA.

HAYWOOD'S Six DAUGHTERS.
Formerly belonging to Haywood were Macon, Cherokee, Jackson, Swain, Clay and Graham counties.
Of many of the pioneer residents of these counties when they were a part of Haywood Col. Allen T. Davidson speaks in The Lyceum for January, 1891. Among them were David Nelson and Jonathan McPeters, Jonathans creek having been named for the latter. David Nelson was the uncle of Col. Win. H. Thomas, and died at 87 highly respected and greatly lamented. "He was of fine physical form, honest, brave and hospitable." "Then there were Joshua Allison, George Owens, John and Reuben Moody, brothers, all sturdy, hardy, well-to-do men and good citizens, who, with Samuel Leatherwood constituted my father's near neighbors."

"Joseph Chambers of this neighborhood moved to Georgia about the opening of the Carroll county gold mine, say, about 1831-32. He was a man of more than ordinary character, led in public affairs and reared an elegant family. His daughters were splendid ladies and married well. His wife was a sister of John and Reuben Moody." John Leatherwood was well known for his "thrift and industry, fine hounds, fine cattle and good old-time apple brandy; a good citizen who lived to a good old age. James McKee, father of James L. McKee of Asheville, lived on this creek, was sheriff of Haywood for many years, and died at an advanced age at Asheville. Near him lived Felix Walker.

Internet notes:

Simon was a direct descendant of Charles Dodson who settled at Jamestown about 1625. Another descendant of Charles Dodson, named Thomas Dodson, early moved to Pittsylvania County and it was his descendants who changed the spelling of the name from Dodson to Dotson.

Thomas DOTSON ,( Sr.?)
Sex: M
Birth: 1748 in Chester County, Pennsylvania
Death: 10 APR 1825 in near Lewisburg, Greenbrier County, Virginia
Occupation: Blacksmith
Military Service: Revolutionary War
Reference Number: 5067
Note:
Thomas and Elizabeth came from Pennsylvania through Maryland and the
Shenandoah Valley to Greenbrier County, Virginia in the late 1700's.
(this fits with the marriage info, I have)

Thomas fought in the Revolutionary War in the Battle of Brandywine,
Germantown and Monmouth. His occupation was that of a blacksmith.

According to "Dodson Genealogy 1600-1907" by Thomas Ege, Thomas was a
member of the Fifth Regiment of the PA line. He drew a pension of $96 per year from January 26, 1818 until his death on April 10, 1825.

BIOGRAPHY: THE DOTSON FAMILY.

BIOGRAPHY: Prominent among the sons and daughters of Greenbrier county in both church and State comes the Dotson family.  Quiet, peaceable and progressive, also prosperous in business and active in church work, the coming of this family has added a blessing to the county.
(I think this is about the son, Thomas (Jr.))

BIOGRAPHY: The ancestor of this family who first came to this county was Thomas Dotson, a Virginian, from Rockingham county, early moved to Pittsylvania County, and it was his descendants who changed the spelling of the name from Dodson to Dotson.

BIOGRAPHY: He was a soldier in the War of 1812(he would have been only 18!barely), and from records given of his family, we surmise that he and Elizabeth, his wife, took up their residence on the farm now owned by Frank Bell. He was an elder in the Presbyterian church and probably one of the charter members of that organization at Richland. (however, if he was an elder in the church, this could be sr.)

Children born of this union were:
Alexander, see notes
George,
Peter,
Jacob, he, by appointment, became Governor of Utah Territory during the gold rush.
Thomas (probably III),
Susan,
Eliza
Catherine married George Anderson.

Alexander Dotson, the ancestor of the Greenbrier family by that name, was born October 16, 1816, and died April 27, 1862. He married Sophia Bunger on September 25, 1845, and afterwards owned and operated the Bunger mills for many years. He was also an elder in the Presbyterian church, and like his father before him, was very active in Christian work. His wife was a sister of Joseph Bunger. She was b. December 14, 1824, and d. July 27, 1874. Their children were John M., H. T. and William R.

Thomas III married Mary E. Lewis and settled in the Hurricane area and is the ancestor of the Dotsons in that section.

"A grandson of this Thomas once told the writer that he remembered his grandfather, Thomas, telling him that he remembered walking barefoot as a 17 year old boy from the Guesses River to see the devastation done by the great tornado that hit in that section of Wise County, so named today as the Hurricane.
Thomas Dotson was born in 1804(I have a bday of 1794)  and if he was 17 when the storm struck then that places the date the tornado hit as 1821(or 1811 with my date). (if so, then he couldnt have been in the war of 1812 as a soldier... and the father thomas would have been too old at 59 for the war of 1812... so either the story is heresay or dates are wrong.

BIOGRAPHY:  **This article only mentions some of the children that several thomases had..and not my caroline... and way too many thomases.  I think that there are actually 3 here...

my caroline is documented in marriage in nc records as of 1827.

Joseph McReynolds, came here and bought a tract of land from John Husk, where he lived the rest of his life. He actually came from Burke's Garden in Tazewell County, Virginia, and he had three children when he came here.
source: from the pioneer recollections of va book by Eliju Jasper Sutherland

Joseph McReynolds, Sr. was born in Orange (now Casswell/Taswell?) County,
North Carolina, the son of Robert and Martha Rich McReynolds.
Joseph was drafted into the Armed Services during the
Revolutionary War at the age of 16. He was wounded in the ankle
in August, 1780 at the battle of Camden, South Carolina, known
as "Gates Defeat", and was not heard from until the March
following. This wound left him a cripple for life.
Joseph entered land November 16, 1782 in what is now Reeds
Valley, Russell County, Virginia, near the town of Cleveland.
He evidently returned to Orange County, North Carolina for his
bride, for records state that he was married to Rebecca Borin,
the daughter of Joseph and Susanna Borin. Russell County,
Virginia was their home all their married life. Joseph's will
 dated October 17, 1830 was probated November 7, 1838.
