Also:
it seems the daughter mentioned above married a sound businessman.
Now I just need to figure out
which one she is.

Articles of incorporation of the Clay County Roller Mills and Elevator
Co., were filed with the secretary of state last week, and on Saturday
a meeting of the stock holders was held in the office of Moore &
Spence. The following officers and directors were elected:
President, H. W. Moore; vice-president, B. L. Royall; secretary and
treasurer, J. F. Davault. Directors, Robert Mebane, E. N. Royall, W.
J. Davidson, D. D. Throgmorton, I. W. Harlan, N. A. Swingle, Jas. M.
Turner and W. D. Templeton. The company has a paid up capital stock
of $10,000 and with such officers and directors as the solid
businessmen mentioned above, there is every reason to believe that the
enterprise will prove a financial success.--Piggott (Ark.) Banner

He died as a result of a saw mill accident.

DEATH: Handwritten info from the funerary book of son John Newton states that his father,
John Monroe, died the spring of 1900.

BIOGRAPHY: John LaBoon was known as "Georgia John" because he married and moved to Flowery Branch, Georgia where he reared his family. Here he built a sawmill, and a cotton gin on his farm and operated a public wheat threshing outfit.

BIOGRAPHY: Per Brandt Laboone History:

BIOGRAPHY: All of John Monroe's children were born in or near Flower Branch, GA.  When his wife Sarah died, he moved back to Easley Station and remarried.  Second wife was Adelaide Phillips, sister of Sarah.

John Monroe had a blacksmithy, saw mill, threshing machines, cotton gin, and he farmed.  He made all of his children's shoes and made wagons. He hauled corn and produce to Atlanta, Ga on an ox wagon.  By all accounts, he was a hard worker and good provider.

and they had an elder daughter living with them, named Alma.  Several doors down the

According to history, my Cicero fought for Virginia in the War.
When it was over, they married and then went back to ga.

I have the 1870 census and the 1880 Murray, ga. census...
cicero is listed as head of house in the 1870,
but by 1880 Murray, "Feby" is listed as head of house,
So I am not sure where cicero would have been.
either missing, dead or gone to texas to prepare the way...

Interesting to me for cherokee genes...And it also might explain why my
leatherwood families are still in NC and Ga and didnt go on the trail...
It might also be because they married into other white families and passed as white...

1838
Approximately 17,000 North Carolina Cherokee are forcibly removed from the state
to the Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma). This event becomes known as the
Trail of Tears. An estimated 4,000 Cherokee people die during the 1,200-mile trek.
A few hundred Cherokee refuse to be rounded up and transported. They hide in the
mountains and evade federal soldiers. Eventually, a deal is struck between the army
and the remaining Cherokee. Tsali, a leading Cherokee brave, agrees to surrender himself
to General Winfield Scott to be shot if the army will allow the rest of his people
to stay in North Carolina legally. The federal government eventually establishes
a reservation for the Eastern Band of Cherokee.

1839
Yonaguska, chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee, dies at age 80.
His adopted white son, William Holland Thomas, becomes chief of the Cherokee
and fights to secure reservation land for them.
