Serviced for Guy Van Voorhis 89, widely know Liscomb area farmer, who died Sunday were held at the Liscomb Church of Christ Thursday. The Rev. Eugene xxxxxx, Friends, Des Moines, xx xxxx, and Bieraborn Funeral Home of Union had charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Liscomb cemetery. Liscomb IOOF lodge had the Graveside rites with Ed Schultz as noble grand and Earl Westherty as Chaplin. The cause of her death was Brights Disease.

Clara May Burkhart Conley died of Bright's disease. Her son, Clyde Albert Conley, says that the only thing that kept her alive toward the end was that he rubbed her with olive oil which her body used as food, since she could not eat anything. Her body started swelling around her legs and in a matter of months it was swelling around her throat and choked her to death.

Clara May Burkhart played and taught the guitar and piano.

General Notes: Mrs Van Voorhis Dies At Age 99; Rites Wednesday LISCOMB (Special) - Lepha (Mrs Guy) Van Voorhis 99, died Saturday morning in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Voss McKibben, Liscomb. Mrs Van Voorhis was born Nov 25, 1880. Eldest of two daughters of Daniel and Matilda Engle Bauman, pioneer settlers in the Liscomb area. Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.in the Liscomb Grace United Church of Christ with the Biersborn Funeral Home , Union in charge. The Rev. Harry Lake of the Grace United Church of Christ and the Rev. Helmer Peterson of the Liscomb Church of Christ will have the services. Burial will be in the Liscomb Cemetery. Mrs. Van Voorhis was graduated in the second class to finish in the Liscomb High School in 1898. She attended the Normal School in Marshalltown and received her teaching certificate at age 18. She taught in rural schools in the area. In 1904 with her sister, Clara and her father, she attended the World Fair in St. Louis, Mo. Lepha Bauman and Guy Van Voorhis were married May 10,1905. They moved to his farm northeast of Liscomb where they spent all their married life. Following his death June 15, 1969, Mrs Van Voorhis made her home with her daughters. She is survived by three daughters, Wilma(Mrs Voss) McKibben, Liscomb, May (Mrs Dale) Bocker, Grundy Center and Maude (Mrs Kenneth) Adams, Liscomb, seven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Until well into her 90's Mrs Van Voorhis played the piano for the Liscomb Grace United Church of Christ of which she was a member. She taught Sunday School for many years & was a member of the Aid Society where she held various offices. She was a 50 year member of the Liscomb Rebecca lodge & active in community affairs. She was also interested in photography during the time of the glass plate & finished her own pictures . She was preceded in death by her sister, Clara Bauman.

Byron and Gladys Bennett lived 4 miles west of Goldendale, Washington on the road going to Glenwood, on the Klickitat river. The river was very close to the house. This is where Clyde Conley, brother of Gladys, caught his first trout. Byron managed the ranch for someone else, raised cattle.
