Information received from Bernard Jackson, Plattsmouth Ne, Feb 1993 states that the birth date of Jane Bates is 15 Apr 1843. I do not know the source of Bernard Jackson's information. The death certificate of Jane Bates reads date of birth as 15 Aug 1842. Her spouse, Phillip Bachler was the informant on the death certificate.


Scharmal Veronica Triesch Conley is the great granddaughter of Jane Bates.

Otto G. Luhman, 69, of Seattle, who has been visiting at the home of his daughter, Mrs Joe Triesch, for the past three months, passed away at the Triesch home early yesterday morning following a brief illness altho he had been ailing for several years.
The Luhmans came to Seattle in 1905 from Phoenix, Arizona. Mr Luhman is survived by his two daughters, Mrs Winnifred Triesch and Mrs Hazel Orcutt of Seattle and a brother, Theo Luhman of Los Angeles. Funeral Services will be held at Yakima Saturday afternoon at 1 :30 from the Shaw & Sons Chapel with burial in Tahoma Cemetery beside his wife who passed away at their Seattle home in November 1930.

Hershel is also listed as a Blacksmith. George's father is listed as being born in Pennsylvania, and mother in Ohio. Anna's father is listed as being born in Indiana and her mother in Iowa.
1930 Census shows George, Floyd, Herschel (Billy) all living in Franklin, South Dakota. George and Floyd are listed as being widowed. Billy as single.


OBITUARY

George L. Parker

George L. Parker, a resident of the Grandview community for the past six years, passed awa y early Sunday evening, Sept 26 following an extended illness. Mr Parker was 87 years of ag e and a native of Rock Bluff, Neb. For many years he had lived near Sioux City, Iowa, where he followed heavy construction as a blacksmith. Since coming to Grandview he made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Parker of route one, old Sunnyside Highway.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Ottawa, Iowa. George L. Parker was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs Anna Parker, Jan 14 1921.
He is survived by two sons, Roy Parker of Grandview, Herschall Parker of Grandview, two sisters, Mrs Erwin Knowles, Benton City, Mrs William Smith of Pacific Junction, Iowa. Eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive. Mr Parker was preceded in death by one son, Floy Parker, of Grandview and one daughter, Mrs Velva Grant of Seattle.
Funeral services for George Parker were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept 29 at the Chapel of the Smith Funeral Home with the Elder William Clements of the Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating. Sacred selections "Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Land Where We'll Never Grow Old" were sung by Delmar Schoefflin and LeRoy Klein accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Christine Dow. Casket bearers were Virgil Holly, I.A. Lyons, D.C. Golladay, Dean Henry, Perry Reid and Tom Ehart. General Notes: The following note from Ada Whitmore, Bickleton,Washington: Freeman Lightfoot L Parker buried in Huit Cemetery, Juniper Canyon 11 Miles south of Bickleton, Washington. Husband of Grace Davis, step-father to her four children, Walter,Robert,Lester and Charlotte D Hale. (She is sister-in-law to Piper Hale) He had a couple of brothers and a half sister Lora Wood. This man was quite a character, sometimes feeding poison to the chickens just to watch them stagger. He failed in his first attempt to get a Mail order wife. She arrived with a young son but took one look and married this man's neighbor (Nob Ledbetter). The next time he didn't take any chances but went to Portland and married the lady before she found out what he really was. A couple months later they had an argument and just to scare her he put some strychnine in his mouth. Alas to late he realized he'd swallowed some. Huge does of lard were of no use and so ended his life.

Death Calls Roy G. Parker

Roy G. Parker of route one, Orchard Tracts, Grandview, passed away at the Yakima Memorial Hospital early Sunday morning, December 9, following an extended illness. Mr. Parker was 68 years of age and a native of Iowa. His early years were spent in Iowa and South Dakota, where he worked as a machinist. On June 3, 1911 he and Miss Hannah Peterson were united in marriage at Hooker, South Dakota. Together they lived in that state for a number of years and in 1940 moved to Oregon and in 1948 moved to their farm near Grandview where Mr. Parker farmed and did some commercial Painting. He took a great deal of interest in mining operations.
Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hannah A. Parker of Grandview; one son, Glen H. Parker of Phoenix Arizona.; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Jordan of Grandview, Mrs. Nelva Kindred of San Jose, Calif. and Mrs. Vetta Harding of Seattle. He is also survived by one brother , Hershel "Billy" Parker of Grandview, an aunt, Mrs. Erwin Knowles of Benton City and one cousin, Mrs. Joe Triesch of Benton City, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of the Smith Funeral Home with Elder William Clements of the Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating. The sacred selection "Precious Hiding Place" was sung by Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Schwisow accompanied by Mrs. Lorene Anderson at the organ.
Casket bearers were George Reiber, Charles Schoepflin, Alfred Dorner, Kenneth Hill, Al Williams and William Schoepflin. Parker Rites Read

Mrs. Hana (Mona) Parker of Grandview died a Prosser Memorial Hospital Jan. 15 following a short illness. She was 79 Yeas of age.
Mrs Parker was born at Viborg, S. Dak., where she spent her early years and received he education. On June 3, 1911, she, Miss Mona Peterson, and Roy Parker were married at Hooker, S . Dak. They lived in South Dakota until moving to Oregon in 1940.
In 1948, the Parkers moved to a farm in the Orchard Tract District near Grandview where they farmed until Mr. Parker's death in 1956. Mrs. Parker later moved to her home on North Elm St, where she continued to care for several ladies.
She was a long time-member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Mrs. Parker is survived by her son, Glen Parker of Portland, Ore.; three daughters, Mrs Bertha Jordan of Spokane, Mrs. Nelva Kindred of San Jose, Calif., and Mrs Vetta Harding of Seattle; two grandsons, Bud Parker of Grandview and Larry Parker of Spokane; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Mrs Will (Anna) Schoepflin of Grandview; one brother, Albert Peterson of Brainerd, Minn.
Funeral services for Mrs Parker were conducted Friday, Jan 18, in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Grandview, with Elder Victor Pike of the Seventh-day Adventist Church Officiating. Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery.
"Under His Wings" and "Just As I Am" were sung by Mrs. Perry Rogers and "Wonderful Morning " was sung by Melvin Schwisow. Honorary bearers were Delmar Schoepflin, Phil Anderson Sr. and Mrs James Trammel. Active bearers were Sam Mohr, Richard Bock, Frank Hunt, Clarence Davis , Dean Hall and Carl McGee. OBITUARY

Herschall Parker Services Friday

Funeral services for Herschall (Billy) Parker, 67, will be held Friday, August 26, at 3 p. m. in the Chapel of the Smith Funeral Home in Grandview, Elder T.O. Willey of the Grandvie w Seventh day Adventist Church will officiate with burial following in the Grandview Cemetery .
Sacred selections will be sung by Mrs. T.O. Willey and Delmar Schoepflin with Mrs. Phil An derson Sr., organist.
Casket bearers will be Charles Schoepflin, Ken Davidson, Al Williams, Clarence Johnson, De nver Golladay and Robert Ballinger. Graveside services will be conducted by the American Legi on and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Parker died Monday, August 22, at Walla Walla Veterans Hospital following an extende d illness. He was born in Davis City, Iowa where he attended the local schools. He served wit h the U.S. Army in World War I and following his military service farmed in Minnesota until m oving to Grandview 12 years ago with his family. During the summer months he was employed wit h the Oregon State Highway Department.
He was a brother of the late Roy G. Parker of Grandview. Surviving is one sister-in-law , Mrs Hannah Parker of Grandview; one nephew, Glen Parker of Yakima; three Nieces, Mrs Bert ha Jordan of Grandview, Mrs Nelva Kindred of San Jose, California, and Mrs. Vetta Harding o f Seattle.
