Amidst a very large number of wedding guests, the union for life of Miss Pauline Mattausch and Mr. Robert Dieckman was solemnized by Franz Schieche, Esq. at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mattausch of the town of Alma, last Saturday, November 10th. The bride was attended by Misses Tillie Mattausch and Lizzie Dieckman, while Mssers. Charles Dieckman and William Mattausch acted as groomsmen.
The groom who is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dieckman of Gilmanton is an industrious young farmer of that town and will make a home for his young bride on the Lester Parisio farm which he has leased for five years.
The bride, who is an amiable young lady is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mattausch of the town of Alma. they were the recipients of many beautiful wedding presents , a token of their esteem their friends hold them in. the music for the dance which formed part of the festivity was furnished by Wm. Mattausch's orchestra. The JOURNAL joins the many friends of the young couple extending hearty congratulations.

An event interesting to many people in this vicinity took place when Robert Dieckman and Miss Emma Mengelt were united in marriage at the courthouse at
Winona, Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 2pm. Judge Robert Looby pronouncing the words which united them as man and wife. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dieckman, brother and sister of the bride and groom served as witnesses. The bride was attired in a green silk dress and the groom wore a blue serge suit.
Both parties to this union have an excellent reputation among their circles of friends. The groom has for many years been a prosperous farmer of the town of Gilmanton, where they will make their future home. The bride has resided in this vicinity for many years past, keeping house for her brother William Mengelt, being known as a careful and industrious housekeeper.That Mr. and Mrs. Dieckman may find many years of happiness and growing prosperity is the wish of their many friends.


Obituary of Robert Henry Dieckman (1877-1957) Date and source unknown

Robert Henry Dieckman, son of Carl Dieckman and wife Minnie nee Hoffman, was born May 19, 1877 in French Valley in the town of Gilmanton. As a small boy, he was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Cream.
He spent his early life on the farm of his parents until the age of 24 years when he was united in marriage with Pauline Mattausch on Nov. 10, 1900. To this union four children were born. He farmed in French Valley on what was known as the Lester Parisio farm and lived there four years when he moved back to the Dieckman homestead.
On Jan 29, 1917, his wife passed away. He continued farming with his family.
On August 6, 1918, he was united in marriage with Emma Mengelt. After six years of their marriage, she passed away March 25, 1925.
On June 1933 he sold his farm to his sons and lived there until the family moved to Mondovi on Nov. 1, 1946. He passed away very suddenly at home on Friday, August 16, 1957 at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 27 days.
He is survived by two sons, Oscar and Walter, and two daughters, Milda and Etta, all of Mondovi; also four sisters, Mrs. Emelia Rast and Mrs. Minnie Williams, Mondovi, and Gustie ,Mrs Myron Rose, Gilmanton, and Anna, Mrs. M.S.
Bond, Ashland and two brothers William, Mondovi, and Tony of Gilmanton and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Scharf and Mrs. Tillie Rose and two brothers, Albert and Charles.
Mr. Dieckman was a faithful husband, a loving and devoted father, and a most respected neighbor. His memory will long be cherished by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon in Trinity Lutheran Church at 2:00, the Rev. A.G. Helmer officiating. Mr. Mel Anshus sang "Softly and Tenderly" and "In the Garden." Burial took place in the Gilmanton Cemetery.
Pall bearers were Jack Zenger, Lawrence Weiss, Coy Anderson, Romeo Bloom, Fred Litchfield, and Elmer Smeltzer.

OBITUARY

The funeral of Mrs. Robert Diekman took place on Wednesday, Jan. 31, the services being conducted by Rev. H.A.Block, and interment taking place in the local cemetery. Mrs. Dieckman, nee Pauline Mattausch, was born at Fountain City, May 7, 1879, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Joseph Mattausch. She spent her childhood there, and when thirteen years of age she came with her parents to the town of Alma, and made her home on the farm with them until her marriage to Robert Dieckman on Nov 10, 1901. Immediately after their marriage Mr .and Mrs. Dieckman made their home on a farm in French Valley in the town of Gilmanton, where they resided ever since. About a year ago she became ill with cancer, and although everything was done for her and the services of skilled physicians employed, she succumbed to the disease on Jan, 19, at the age of thirty-seven years. Deceased was a woman of fine character, possessed of all the attributes of a dutiful wife, a good mother, and a true friend, and her untimely demise brings to those nearest and dearest to her the heartfelt sympathy of her many friends. She leaves to mourn her death her husband and four children, Oscar, Walter, Milda, and Etta; also her aged parents, her three brothers, Edward, Joseph and William, and her three sisters, Mrs. Simon Triesch of Benton City, Wash., and Mrs. John Voss and Mrs. Chris. Mrs. Charles (Orvina E.) Gradle 68, former Mondovi resident, died Saturday, May 7, 1977 at a Valparaiso, Ind., nursing home.
The daughter of Albert and Mary Dieckman, she was born at Alma, Jan 31, 1909.
She married Russell Phillips. He died May 31, 1957. She married Charles Gradle in February, 1961.
Survivors are : her husband; one son, Bruce Phillips, Peoria, IL, one daughter, (Mrs. David (Mary Lee) Wilson, Hobart; six grandchildren; three brothers, George Dieckman, Hayward; Lyman Dieckman, Gilmanton; and Melvin Dieckman, Mondovi. and one sister, Mrs. Walter (Ruby) Hobart.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Kjentvet & Sons Funeral Home, Mondovi, the Rev. Norman Ruthenbeck, Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial was in Gilmanton Cemetery.
