!FHL BRITISH BOOK AREA 929.241 G767f THE CHIEFS OF GRANT / by William Fraser.
Page 522.
He was served heir-male general to his brother John, and also in portions of
the lands of Glenmoriston on 18 Jan 1737. In 1735 he entered into a bond of
friendship with Macdonald of Glengarry. He married, it is said, a daughter of John Grant of Craskie, and left issue. He died at Innerwick on 30 Mar 1786, in the eighty-sixth year of his age.
The Landed Gentry Great Britian, p. 953: "Patrick Grant, 8th of Glenmoriston "Mac Phadruig". According to the report of Field-Marshal Wade, 1746, he was able to put 100 clansmen into the field, and of these 69 surrendered their arms at Inverness in May of that year. He married Isobel, dau. of John Grant of Craskie, Inverness, and died 30 March 1786, having had issue.
From "Major Alpin's Ancestors": Patrick Grant, VIII of Glenmoriston, "Padruig bui," was served heir to his brother in 1737. He took part in the skirmish at Ath-nam-Muileach in 1721, and in the earlier moves of the '45, but does not seem to have fought at Culloden; though his clansmen did, and were in consequence subjected to the signal vengeance of Cumberland. He was exempted from the Act of Indemnity, 20 Geo. II., cap. 52. He died 30 Mar 1786, having married Isobel, "Bhaintighearna ruadh," daughter of John Grant of Craskie.
