Dennis Potter Shanahan and Ruby Shanahan
Automobile / Train Accident
INJURED IN ACCIDENTD. S. Shanahan, contractor, and his daughter, Miss Ruby Shanahan,
204 West Jefferson avenue, Oak Cliff, who were seriously injured when
an automobile in which they were riding was struck by a Santa Fe train
at the South Ewing avenue crossing in Oak Cliff Tuesday morning.
Transcribed 16 Sep 2008 by K. L. Rhodes.NOTEs: Article from an unknown Texas (Dallas?) Newspaper. The middle initial given as "S" for Dennis is an obvious mistake. The photo of Dennis is NOT thought to be a current photo; the accident supposedly took place c1918 when he was approx age 45 and above photo appears to be from much earlier. Daughter Ruby is approx age 17 and her photo does look to be current. Dennis Potter Shanahan lost a leg in this accident but despite this was able (with the aid of an artificial limb and a cane) to remain physically active (climbed ladders and carried on his contractring business) etc.
