MISSING BRIDE RETURNS TO HUSBAND-- Mrs. Mildred Aspinwall Teston, 14-year old- bride who was spirited away 15 minutes after wedding, holds a belated reunion with her husband, Doniver Teston, 18, on farm near Blackshear, Ga. _______Unique Case Is Reported By Pierce Sheriff
_______BLACKSHEAR, Ga.,Feb. 7---A young Lochnivar who came out of the West driving an allegedly stolen steed, last night kidnapped a fourteen-year old bride of half an hour near here, according to a story related today by Pierce County Sheriff L. L. Taylor.
The man, described by the sheriff as a six-foot 220-pound, black haired, construction worker with a "pretty bad" local reputation, was identified as James B. Davis, 21 originally of California. Davis has been charged with kidnapping, the sheriff said, and is the object of a widespread search centering in Savannah.
Victim of the alleged kidnaper is pretty blonde Mildred Aspinwall Teston, 14, who thirty minutes before the incident occurred had been married in Alma to Doniva Teston, 17.
Davis, in addition to the kidnaping charge is also suspected of having stolen the automobile he was driving. In addition, the sheriff said, he is believed to be the person who fliched the Georgia licence plate from an automobile belonging to the victim's father.
According to the story related by the aggrieved bridegroom to Sheriff Tatlor, Miss Aspinwall and young Teston had been going together since early childhood, and had finally obtained their parents' cansent to be married. Last night Davis agreed to drive them to Alma, where the ceremony was preformed.
Immediately after, at a point on the Alma-Savannah highway, five miles east of Alma, Davis is reported to have stopped his automobile with the request that the young bridegroom go inside a roadside store and purchase several soft drinks. When he left the car, Teston related, Davis drove away with his bride.
All three of the principals in the case were "cold sober" at the time, the sheriff quoted teston was saying.
When full details of the suspected kidnaping were revealed today, Sheriff Taylor telephoned Savannah police a full description of the man and the girl. In addition, the sheriff reported, he had notified police of several other towns and the patrol.
In Savannah, Chief of Detectives John C. McCarthy reported that an all-car alert had been given and that a special detail of detectives had been assigned to cover Savannahused car lots. It is believed that Davis is without funds, and will probably attempt to sell the automobile.
At a late hour tonight, no trace had been discovered of either the missing pair or the automobile.
The victim was described by the sheriff as a petite blonde, four feet and eight inches in height and 105 pounds in weight. Her eyes are blue, Sheriff Taylor said, and at the time she allegedly was kidnaped, she was wearing a black dress with a white collar.
Teston is also small in sise, the sheriff said, and weighs about 120 pounds.
Davis has been a resident of Bristol, in Pierce county about eleven miles from Blackshear, for about two months. He was an employe of the Myron Construction Company, and engaged on a building job near Bristol. The young couple had know Davis only about two or three weeks, said the sheriff. Both young Teston and Miss Aspinwall lived on farms near the construction job.
Davis was already suspected of having stolen the 1937 Chevrolet coupe he was driving last night, the sheriff said. Sheriff Taylor said the construction worker tried serveral times to sell the vehicle, but had been unable to produce proper ownership papers.
'We thought the car was 'hot'" said the sheriff, "and were checking with California police, when this business accurred." The auto originally had California licence plates, but were believed replaced with those allegedly stolen from Miss Aspinwall's father.
