
The Seal of
John Shakespeare
of Rowington
Ryland, in "Records of Wroxall," tells us that the Shakespeares of both Wroxall and Rowington used the same seal for many generations, examples of which still survive on documents relating to both places. This is a further clue to the kinship of the Shakespeares in both localities.
Although he does not specify that this is the seal he refers to, he reproduces the seal of John Shakespeare on page 160. The date of the document to which it is attached is dated 1664.
