William & Mary Shakespeare

of Kenilworth

William and Mary Shakespeare baptised a number of children at Kenilworth:

Baptisms at Kenilworth

Date Name Parents
23 Sept 1794 William William & Mary Shakespeare
26 Dec 1795 Edward William & Mary Shakespeare
26 Sept 1798 Kitty William & Mary Shakespeare
3 June 1800 Kitty William & Mary Shakespeare
31 May 1803 James William & Mary Shakespeare

Strangely, it seems that at least some of their children were also baptised at Coventry. This can be deduced from the names Edward and Kitty, which are unusual amongst the Shakespeares of this time. It is presumed that the Catherine baptised at Coventry is the 1798 Kitty baptised at Kenilworth. Note that the dates for these 'double' baptisms are similar.

Baptisms at St Michael, Coventry

Date Name Parents
23 Nov 1795 Edward William & Mary Shakespeare
22 June 1798 Catherine William & Mary Shakespeare
6 Jan 1800 Kitty William & Mary Shakespeare
21 Dec 1807 Elizabeth William & Mary Shakespeare

(Additionally there is a burial for Elizabeth, 28 Feb 1808, at St Michael, Coventry).

William Shakespeare and Mary Satterthwaite were married 25 Dec 1792, at St John, Coventry.

James (b 1803, Kenilworth) might be the James Shakespeare who married Elizabeth Thorne, of Kenilworth, at St Mary, Warwick, 3 April 1827.

February 2005
