The Dictionary of National Biography states that John Shakespear was born in
August 1774, at Lount, Near Ashby. The IGI has a baptism 11 Sept 1774 at
Breedon on the Hill, Leicestershire, for John son of John Shakespeare,which
is quite probably this John. There is also a marriage at Ashby
De La Zouch 19 Nov 1773 of John Shakespeare and Martha Clark. Lount is
midway between Breedon on the HIll and Ashby De La Zouch. The IGI records two
other children, both baptised at Breedon on the Hill, of John and Martha: Thomas
bapt 29 April 1779 and Ann bapt 20 Aug 1780.
Of John Senior there are
two possible baptisms at Breedon on the Hill:

of William Shakespeare

bapt 27 April 1740 John
son of Jonas Shakespeare. Jonas Shakespeare married Mary Ludford
29 June 1736 at Shepshed, Leics. Another child of theirs, Jonas, was bapt 20
Sept 1747. Confusingly, the IGI has a marriage for a William Shakespeare and
another Mary Ludford 13 Oct 1752 at Breedon on the Hill.
