Funeral For A. J. Clements Services Conducted at Metz Church Sunday Afternoon by Dr. R. L. Stuart Funeral services for Andrew J. Clement were held from the Metz church on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Clement died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines on Friday from Bright's disease. Dr. R. L. Stuart, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church at Newton, conducted the services. Music was furnished by Russell Gage, Richard Toedt, Mrs. Fred Reeve, and Mrs. W. H. Nelson, with Miss Florence Sherman as accompanist. Burial was in the Metz cemetery. Andrew J. Clement, son of William and Nancy Clement, was born on February 9, 1868, and died February 21, 1925, at the age of 67 years and 18 days. The early part of his life was spent near Newton and Prairie City, from where he moved to Farrar, Iowa, where he lived for 28 years. Mr. Clement is survived by an only son Bert Clement, of Farrar, Iowa, and by four brothers, Jerome Clement and Abram clement of Farrar, Travis Clement of Des Moines and Samuel Clement of Metz. There also are three grandchildren who survive. Mr. Clement was well known in Newton and had many friends in this vicinity who will be saddened by news of his death. ~ The Newton Daily News March 2, 1925. |

Born: November 2, 1852 ![]() Mr. Charles Clement died Thursday morning at the age of fifty years, at the home of his brother, Samuel, four miles south of Colfax, after a painful illness of but a few weeks duration a victim of pneumonia. Dr. Turner who had charge of the case, realized early in the treatment that it was a very serious matter and called Drs. Schooler and Ryan, of Des Moines in consultation. They came Tuesday and offered no suggestion of change of treatment or hope of permanent improvement. The sufferer lingered till Thursday morning and passed away about 11 o'clock. His near surviving relatives are a sister and six brothers. The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Staid, at 1 p.m., tomorrow, beginning at the home an ending at the Sugar Grove church and the interment will be in Metz cemetery. ~ The Colfax Clipper, Saturday, March 7, 1903. |

Born: April 7, 1861 at Metz, Jasper Co., Iowa Travis Clement Dies Sunday at Broadlawns Hospital, Des Moines. Metz. Oct. 27. -- Special -- Travis Clement local resident, died yesterday morning in Broadlawns hospital in Des Moines where he had been submitting to treatment. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Metz church and burial will be in the Metz cemetery. Mr. Clement was 69 years of age and was the son of William and Nancy Clement. He was born in 1861 at Metz and lived here until about 29 years ago when he moved to Des Moines. He was one of the family of nine children. He is survived by three brothers. ~ The Newton Daily News, October 27, 1930. Travis D. Clement Mingo, Iowa. -- Special. -- Funeral services for Travis D. Clement were held at the Metz church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. H. D. Simmons of the Mingo church in charge. Burial was in the Metz cemetery. Music was in charge of Rev. and Mrs. H. D. Simmons who sang, "In the Garden," "Going Down the Valley" and "God Be With You." Accompaniment was by Miss Gladyce Inglis. Travis D. Clement, son of William and Nancy Clement was born in Jasper county in April 7, 1861 and grew to manhood there. After the death of his parents he made his home with his younger brother, Jerome Clement for a number of years. A few years ago he moved to Des Moines where he was employed until his health failed and after submitting to treatment in a Des Moines hospital he was employed at the Polk County home. His condition failed to improve and it was found necessary to remove him to the Broadlawns hospital where he died on Sunday, Oct. 26. He is survived by three brothers, Samuel of Metz and Jerome and Abram of Farrar, and by many other relatives and friends. ~ Jasper County Record, October 39, 1930, page 4, column 6. |

Rites on Tuesday Arthur Clement, 60, resident of the Jasper County Home died here Sunday morning. Funeral services are to be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Toland Funeral home. Surviving are four brothers and a sister, Frank Clement of Newton, Earl Clement of Newton, Ed Clement of Farrar and Roy Clement of Des Moines and Mrs. Lyda Henderson of Indianola. ~ The Newton Daily News, June 16, 1941. |
