VAUGHAN - VAUGHN Family
An interesting outline of the VAUGHAN name is on the Rootsweb VAUGHAN Message Board
Widow Elizabeth VAUGHAN and children are
found in Shenandoah County, Virginia before 1785. They may have been from Wales as
son John's family recalled he was born in 1755 Wales coming to America with his father and brothers William and James although the
same source says he was born in Winchester, Frederick County, or Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia. They did not mention the
mother or other children. An email source says the place in Wales was Cardiff,
the capital and largest city of Wales. It is not
known if that was their residence or place of departure.
- John VAUGHAN born around 1755 in Wales or Winchester, Frederick, County or Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia married
Phebe FALLIS January 23, 1790 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Phebe was born around 1768 in Shenandoah County, Virginia sister of
Isaac and died before 1820 in Greene County, Ohio. John died in 1839 Greene
County, Ohio with both buried on the VAUGHAN Farm which is now part of the Sugarcreek MetroPark.
- Rebecca VAUGHAN married in 1785 John YOUNG, and in 1797 married Charles BARKER.
- William VAUGHAN (1767-by1840) married in 1788 Sarah CANTER
- Molley VAUGHAN married in 1788 Abraham JOBE
- Mercy VAUGHAN born about August 4, 1774 married Isaac FALLIS October 10, 1797 in
Shenandoah County, Virginia. Mercy died August 4, 1834 and Isaac died March 9, 1858 both buried on their farm in the FALLIS Pioneer Cemetery
in Sugar Creek Township, Greene County, Ohio three miles north of Bellbrook, Ohio.
- James VAUGHAN mentioned in Vaughan Family Sketch.
Tretower Castle, Wales is said
to be the homeland of most VAUGHAN's in America, includes map.
February 9, 2007 The Learning Channel featured the castle
on their most haunted show. Tours are available.
Featured
on many web sites
even a garden site with map
and is now also a book A Welsh House & It's Family The Vaughan's of Trawsgoed by Gerald Morgan.
One interesting part of the family history is the number of FALLIS - VAUGHAN marriages. I should have keep a list from the beginning
