Called "Dodo" by Willie and "Gossie" by Buddy, this is how she looked when my great grandmother came to America with her nine year old daughter, Hattie. The captain of the ship provided fruit to my grandmother on the voyage over. Susanne's family paid their passage. They ported in New York. Her brother, John, helped her get settled and fussed at her when she went off on her own one day to find a job. He bought her a dress, perhaps this one. John was an architect and built apartments in New York. Susanne and Hattie did not stay in New York long before following other family members to Texas.
