Buried in the old Self Plantation Cemetery located at the Plantation site behind Hodges Gardens near Hornbeck, Louisiana. He was in Sabine Parish in 1859. Franklin was the sheriff of Sabine Parish, Louisiana in 1883. He was also a Lieutenant and later a Captain in the "Sabine Parish Rebels" during the Civil War. They were a part of the 17th Louisiana Regiment which was captured and paroled at the fall of Vicksburg in 1863. He was also a Mason.

Samuel Coleman Self, as a Minister of the Gospel, founded several churches
and missions in and around Sabine Parish. He was saved and ordained at
the Toro Baptist Church. He and his wife, Frances Lucretia Prater, are
buried side by side at the Toro Cemetery, next to the church. He was also
a farmer.

John Isaac Self left Louisiana after killing a man. He moved to Smackover,
Arkansas. He was listed in the 1910 Census, Natchitoches Parish, as 38
years old and married 8 years. He is buried in Mount Holly, Arkansas, in
Mount Holly Cemetery. His tombstone says he was born in 1875. The 1910
Census says he was born in 1872. In 1991 when I visited the cemetery it
[the stone] was in very good shape.

David L. Self as a boy. David L. Self was actually a female. Aunt Dade's
dress caught fire, and she burned to death.

me, James F. Smith, a Notary Public, in and for Sabine Parish, Louisiana,
duly appointed, commissioned, and qualified, on this 21st day of December
1885, personally came and appeared D. W. Self and W. S. Ellzey to me well
known good and credible witnesses, who being by me duly sworn, on their
oath, declared and said, that they are both well acquainted with Franklin
D. Self, the claimant for bounty land & c in case No, 336007 and were
well acquainted with William Self the father of said Franklin D. Self,
and who was a soldier in the war of 1812, Capt. Thomas Beckhams Co. And
that they know that said soldier William Self is the identical person who
served as soldier in the war of 1812 as asserted and claimed in the claim
of said Franklin D. Self, No. 336007. And that said William Self never
did aid or abet the Confederate Government. And that said William Self
married Miss Jane Walker and never had any other wife previous, and that
said wife died previous to his death. And that she was never married to
any one except William Self. And that said Franklin D. Self was a minor
at the time of the death of his father the said William Self, being born
on 28th October 1839. So help them God.

No. 336007, who being by me duly sworn, declared and said that after the
death of his mother his said father William Self married Elizabeth Sandifer
by whom he had no issue, and that she is now dead; so help him God.

mother died previous to his father, and that his said mother was never
married only the one time. And that he (this affiant) was a minor at the
time of the death of his said father, the said William Self, he being born
on 27th October 1839. So help him God.
