Jehu Chastain Self was born on Aug. 14, 1843 in Union County, Georgia and died Apr. 21, 1923 in Yakima County, Washington. He was the son of Thomas R. and Nancy (Cook) Self, grandson of Job Self, and great grandson of Francis Self. He was a Confederate soldier, wounded in battle, and later became a farmer and a teacher. He married Feb. 3, 1870 Margaret Kerlee, b. Apr. 13, 1851 and d. Mar. 30, 1887 in LaVeta, CO., daughter of Bird and Martha Drusilla (Smith) Kerlee. He moved his family from Cherokee County, GA to Yakima County, Washington.
