Kenny WILLIAMS related to Sandra BUTCH
Interestingly, he was telling me a story of Cleveland Sloyer -- how he was called "Land," how he was the gypsy in the family (always traveling and looking for adventure) and how he had been away for so many years that his mother barely recognized him when he returned, and that he had syphilis -- thus confirming everything you told me earlier. I guess to my mother's young ears "Land" must have sounded like "Lant."

+ 479 M i Amandus S. SLOYER is printed as #256.
Susannah married (2) John Phillip BÜG son of Heinrich BŰG and Anna Barbara PARTENHEIMER on 10 Mar 1887 in Hellertown, Pennsylvania. John was born 1 on 27 Mar 1856 in bad Kreuznach, Eisenberg, Stauf, Freilaubersheim area in Germany. He died 2 in 1923. John was baptized 3 on 4 Apr 1856 in Sipperfeld. He immigrated 4 in 1880. He was naturalized 5 in 1890 in PA. He was employed 6 as day laborer in 1900. He was employed 7 as molder in 1920 in foundry.
Alicia Jenkins, ljj5@yahoo.com writes
My information on Johan Philip Büg comes from the church records for Sippersfeld, also recorded in Speyer. While living in Bad Kreuznach, Germany quite a few years back I started researching my mother's German ancestors. My maternal grandfather was a SCHLEICHER whose family came from Güstrow, Mecklenberg-Schwerin. My grandmother was an OBST, born in Manhattan in 1895 of Fredrich August OBST and Margaretha BÜG. one of their 5 children. The OBST family was originally from Polnish Lissa, Posen - at that time Germany.
Margaretha BÜG and her brother Johan Philip were recorded born in Stauf and baptised in Sipperfseld. Stauf now has about 250 inhabitants & is incorporated into Sippersfeld. This area has been in many hands but at the time was politically part of Bavaria. They were the children of Heinrich BÜG (this is the spelling in the church records) and Anna Barbara PARTENHEIMER. Heinrich was a farmer and a feldshutz - a friend advises this means he carried a gun used mainly to kill off birds which were decimating the fields & vineyards. He was the son of Johan Minrad BÜG - also a farmer - and his wife Maria Margaretha TRUMM of Stauf; Johan the son of Johanes BÜG and Maria Gertraude RITZER.Johan Philip BÜG's mother was Anna Barbara PARTENHEIMER who along with her 7 siblings was baptised in Frei-Laubersheim, which is now incorporated into Bad Kreuznach, of a branch of the PARTENHEIMER family which some generrations back married into a family of linenweavers, apparently took up the trade (as most of the family were, and some still are, wine makers/vinters), and moved a bit south to Sippersfeld. There they also served in various capacities in the church until at least 1958, which might explain the very well-kept records.
Johan Philip BÜG was born 27 Mar 1856 in Stauf & baptised 4 April 1856 in Sippersfeld. His godparents were his mothers parents, Johan Philip PARTENHEIMER, linenweaver, and his wife Christina BAUßman.
My mother pronounces Büg like "beeeg" which could explain the Bigg spelling. His family is from around Bad Kreuznach, Eisenberg, Stauf, Freilaubersheim area in Germany and I have church records for the Büg/Beug/Burg family as they relate to my Partenheimer family. Heinrich Büg m. Anna B Partenheimer - 2 known children were Johann Phillip Büg(27 Mar 1856) & Margaretha(my Ggrandmother). Their parents died in 1876 & 79 in Germany. They appear to have emmigrated together after that. She married an Obst in 1884 in NYC & stayed there. I have Johann's death in 1923.

Aaron and Emma seated in the front, with Blanche, Harvey, Jennie, and Minnie, a half-sister, standing behind them. Charlie is in a separate photo attached to the left. I assume his time was already gone when the family portrait was taken, as he died fairly young from alcohol poisoning

When interviewed in the 1960s by great-grandson Jay Willis stated her full name was Mary Ann Ashton Wilson, however there is no collaborating evidence of this. However 1880 census indicates that neighbor who listed Jennie as adopted daughter was named Mary Ashton. could Mary have adopted this name from a strong relationship with a woman who was filling the motherly needs of youth girls who were orphans?

Linda Klosek 1/2003:
My theory on Preston and Mary Sloyer. In the 1890 substitute census I don't know who the Mary, age 16, is.
In the 1910 Census Preston is listed as single and Mary M. Ruth is listed as married 11 years with 2 children. I believe her 2 children were the Eva and Mary M. who are also listed. I believe she may have been married to a Ruth who possibly died soon after Eva was born. I think she then lived with Preston and had a child with him, Mary M. in 1909. I believe they married sometime between 1910 and 1912.Baptisms at Christ Evan. Luth. Church in Hellertown, PA are:
Mary Maria Sloyer, b. June 8, 1909, dau. of Preston Sloyer and Mary M. Ruth.
Samuel Abraham Sloyer, b. Sept. 7, 1912, son of Preston Sloyer and Mary M. Hoffert.
Preston Andrew Sloyer, b. Sept. 24, 1914, son of Preston Sloyer and Mary Hoffert.
Emma Elizabeth Sloyer, b. Mar. 14, 1918, dau. of Preston Sloyer and Mary Hoffert.
Ida Naomi Sloyer, b. May 22, 1920, dau. of Preston Sloyer and Mary Hoffert.Preston's obit, 1944, states his wife was Mary A. Hoffert and children were Mrs. Franklin (Mary) Klutz, Mrs. Otto (Emma) Schaeffer, Mrs. Charles (Ida) Shultz, Preston Jr. and Samuel Sloyer, and one step-daughter Eva Ruth.
Mary's obit, 1961, states she was Preston's widow. Survivors are 2 sons Samuel and Preston, 3 daus. Eva Ruth Sloyer, Mrs. Otto (Emma) Schaffer, Mrs. Charles (Ida) Schultz. (By this time dau. Mary had died).
Mary M. (Sloyer) Klotz, 1945, says she is a daughter of the late Preston and Mary nee Hoffert Sloyer. Survived by, mother, sisters and brothers, Mrs. Otto Schaeffer, Mrs. Charles Schultz, Eva Ruth Sloyer, Preston Jr. and Samuel Sloyer.
Samuel's obit, 1978, says he was a son of Preston and Mary (Hoffert) Sloyer. Survived by 3 sisters, Eva Ruth, Mrs. Emma Schaffer and Mrs. Charles Schultz.
Mrs. Eva S. Ruth's obit., 1980, states she was a dau. of Preston and Mary (Hoffert) Sloyer. Surviving are 2 sisters Mrs. Emma Schaffer and Mrs. Charles Schultz.
(I believe because Eva's real father probably died when she was so young, that Preston was considered her father since he raised her). From all the above info. my conclusion is that there was only one wife Mary.
