The "British Empress" was a heavy fuel oil tanker and after leaving Falmouth carried out a number of trips to Sweden, Norway and Belgium as well as several UK coastal Voyages. He left this ship in December 1957 and then joined the SS "Beecher Island" agin in Falmouth. The "Beecher Island" was a standard T2 tanker built in the USA and was used for carrying crude oil. Several voyaes were made to South Africa, Iran, Kuwait, Argentina and Uraguay.
1961	Educated Welsh College of Advanced Technology, Cardiff. in Cardiff, Glamorgan. Studied here prior to sitting the examination for Second Mates Certificate of Competency. Left early to go back to sea to earn more sea time. Only mentioned as this was were he met Penny, his wife.
between 21st Oct 1961 and 15th Mar 1962	Occupation Third Officer. MV "Iron Age". Common Bros (Vallum Shipping Company). He joined the "Iron Age" at Cardiff. The "Iron Age" was a bulk ore carrier and made voyages to South Africa and Norway.
