She spent the last nine months of her life in the loving care of the staff a the Golden Pines assisted living center. Jean was born on June 10, 1916, in Fargo, N.D. Her parents were Ray and Anna Sweetman. While her father was a missionary for the American YMCA, her family lived in China from 1919 to 1926. She graduated from Syracuse University with a fine arts degree. She worked in New York City for a wallpaper design firm.
She met and fell in love with George Fisk, who was attending Union Theological Seminary. They married on Nov. 1, 1942. Besides being a talented artist, Jean was a skilled musician. She played the piano and organ and both accompanied and sang in several church choirs. She moved to St. Joseph in 1964 when George became the minister for the First Congregational Church. Although failing eyesight limited her activities, she was an active healer with the Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Jean is survived by her husband; her sister, Marcia Caldwell of Kensington, Md.; daughters -- Kate Schultz of Stuttgart, Germany, Cynthia Fort and Molly Kehoe of Grand Rapids; and a son, Jonathan Fisk of St. Joseph. Her grandchildren include -- Tim Gibbs, Rachel Fisk, Erika (Fisk) Jackson, Cale Sauter, Zoe, Andrew and Jennifer Fort, James and Erin Kehoe; and great-grandson, Alastair Fisk.
We will miss her graciousness and her sweet and loving ways, until we meet again.
